About 5,000 Memphis-area Muslims joined in a community prayer Friday morning at DeSoto Civic Center and received a message of hope and praise for following the commandments of Allah and making sacrifices during a month of fasting.
The prayer celebrated Eid ul-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, the holiest month of the Islamic calendar.
Ramadan is marked by dawn-to-dusk fasting, other abstentions and daily prayer.
Shaikh Mohamed Zaghloul, scholar and imam of Masjid Al-Noor mosque in the University of Memphis area, led the community prayer, which was organized by the four mosques in the Memphis area.
