FROM PIGAZETTE.COM:
KULTURE | GOLDEN OINKS AWARDS 2008
Every week, the PIG staff buries the hatchet - invariably in one another - and sits down for our weekly awards selection shouting match, punchout and melee. Battered, bruised, and amazed that we survived another contentious confab, we try to muster a some semblance of professionalism while we salute those Standup Guys and Gals and administer bitch-slaps on the richly deserving. Originally named Props And Chops we decided to give this awards page a more illustrious name: Golden Oinks 2008.
PIG's Golden Oinks Selection Committee singles out the following individuals and/or groups for special PIG attention.
Date Awards Conferred: February 08, 2008
Stand-Up Guys 'n Gals
Heroes of the Week: This honor is shared by the 12 leading Danish newspapers that reprinted this Kurt Westergaard Muhammad cartoon. The papers were responding to the news that the proper authorities just broke up terrorist plot to murder this courageous Danish cartoonist. With the trio of Jihadikazes - a pair of Tunisian scumbags and a Danish citizen of Moroccan origin - in a graybar suite, the newspapers got into the Jihadikazes face, again, like they did when they printed 12 Muhammad cartoons on September 30, 2005.
Obviously, the Danes are still pissed about the Jihadikaze rampages that followed their September 2005 exercise in free speech:
"We are doing this to document what is at stake in this case, and to unambiguously back and support the freedom of speech that we as a newspaper will always defend," said the Copenhagen-based Berlingske Tidende. (Contra Costa Times)
We salute the Jyllands-Posten newspaper that continues to employ Kurt Westergaard. We also salute the other 11 newspapers that joined Jyllands-Posten in republishing Westergaard’s cartoon.
