Quiet D.C. coup spells big trouble in War on Terror

"Sadly, Washington now seems all too ready to yield on matters of principle. Or, as former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton told the German magazine Der Spiegel this week, American foreign policy "is in free fall. The president is acting against his own judgment and instincts under the influence of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.""
FROM JEWISHWORLDEVIEW.COM:
Quiet D.C. coup spells big trouble in War on Terror — not only for America, but Israel, too
By Michael Freund

In recent weeks, US foreign policy has undergone a sharp turnaround, as Washington increasingly has abandoned its principled stances of the past seven years on just about every major foreign policy issue, and has begun to mimic the previous administration.
Will the real George W. please stand up?

After seven years of fearlessly confronting evil, both rhetorically and militarily, the Bush administration in Washington seems to have faded away, replaced instead by a meek shadow of its former self.

Firm resolve has given way to disappointing frailty, as the shape and direction of US foreign policy increasingly resembles something taken straight out of Bill Clinton's playbook.

Across the board, on nearly every major issue of the day, from Iran to Syria to North Korea, the Bush administration is in retreat, abandoning the principled stands of yesteryear and replacing them with the unscrupulous and inexplicable policies now being pursued by the Department of State.

Condi hangs a ‘No Jews Allowed’ sign

Condi Rice has gone way over the line, again. It seems as though the only important thing to Rice is HER vision of selling out Israel to impose her will. I have to ask, on just what authority does Rice try to force her “solution” on Israel? She needs to register as an agent of Hamas, Hezbollah and Fatah.

Rice's comparison between Israeli security measures and America's Jim Crow laws is intellectually dishonest and morally obscene

Condoleezza Rice has got some nerve. First, the US Secretary of State had the chutzpa to compare Israel's treatment of Palestinians to that meted out to US blacks during the bad old days of the segregationist South.

Speaking at a private session at the close of the Annapolis conference, America's top diplomat said that having grown up "as a black child in the South, being told she could not use certain water fountains or eat in certain restaurants, she also understood the feelings and emotions of the Palestinians."

"I know what it is like to hear that you cannot go on a road or through a checkpoint because you are Palestinian," the Washington Post (November 29) quoted her as saying. "I understand the feeling of humiliation and powerlessness," she added.

Needless to say, the fact that American blacks were victims of violence and hate, while Palestinians are its proficient practitioners, seems to have escaped the secretary of state's attention.

Moreover, Rice's comparison between Israeli security measures and America's Jim Crow laws is both intellectually dishonest and morally obscene. There is no similarity whatsoever between Israel establishing a checkpoint aimed at catching Palestinian suicide bombers and the state of Georgia's 1960s era prohibition against serving blacks and whites in the same restaurant.

Condi Rice: We are all Palestinians

A great take by Julia Gorin on Condi's duplicity in the sell out of Israel.
FROM POLITICALMAVINS.COM:
Condi Rice: We are all Palestinians
By Julia Gorin (bio)
A recent Jerusalam Post article was titled “Rice: I know what it’s like to be Palestinian.”
It’s an apt sentiment on Rice’s behalf, given that she did in fact demand Israel remove 24 security roadblocks in Judea and Samaria prior to this month’s Annapolis conference. It was via one of these dismantled roadblocks that three PA policemen were able to gain access to a road on which 29 year-old father Ido Zoldan was driving. They gunned him down as he drove, with American-supplied weapons.
“I know what it’s like to be Palestinian.”
Translation: “I know what it’s like to be a Jew-killer.”

Olmert in Peaceland

A good analogy between Alice in Wonderland and Condi in Annapolis. I call it going down the rabbit hole without a prayer of coming back.
FROM JEWISHWORLDREVIEW.COM:
Olmert in Peaceland
By Michael Freund

The parallels between Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, and Condoleezza Rice's Olmert in Peaceland, are too frightening to ignore

Well, it has been quite a week for the peacemakers.

In the 72 hours prior to yesterday's Annapolis conference, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired six Kassam rockets and over a dozen mortar shells at Israeli towns and cities throughout the Negev.
Jerusalem was placed on high alert on Sunday, with roadblocks and checkpoints set up at the various entrances to the city, after intelligence reports indicated that two terrorists were on their way to the capital to carry out a mass attack.

And in Hebron, a young Palestinian armed with a knife was caught at the Tomb of the Patriarchs planning to stab the first Jew he could find.

Phew -- after all those decades of bloodshed, it sure sounds like reconciliation is finally at hand.

But hey, what's a few explosive projectiles, two would-be suicide bombers and a sharpened blade between friends? When US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is determined to throw a party, she isn't going to let pesky little details, such as Palestinian attempts to murder Israelis, get in the way of salvaging her chances at a legacy.

Peace of the brave, or peace of the knave, it hardly really seems to matter all that much to Ms. Rice. As long as the lighting is just right for the grand photo-op, and her coiffed hair is oh-so-perfectly in place, the future of the Jewish state will just have to take a back seat to more pressing concerns.

Staticidal zealotry

Condi Rice is dragging not only Israel, but the West into an untenable position. Giving the Palestinians any more concessions will quickly lead to the dissolution of Israel and a unified Arab Middle East.
FROM JEWISHWORLDREVIEW:
Staticidal zealotry
By Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is behaving like a zealot. In her ever-more-rash pursuit of a Palestinian state, she is exhibiting the syndrome defined by the philosopher George Santana, as one who redoubles her efforts upon losing sight of the objective.

Let's recall: The objective laid out by President Bush, when he decided in June 2002 to support the creation of a homeland for the Palestinian people, was to provide a stable, secure neighbor for Israel, committed to leaving peaceably with the Jewish State.

Mr. Bush explicitly preconditioned such support on: an end to Palestinian terror; a Palestinian leadership that was not tainted by ties to terrorism; and the elimination of the infrastructure in Palestinian areas that enables such behavior. After the 9/11 attacks, the United States was in the business of eliminating terrorist-sponsoring regimes, not creating them.

Rice tapping U.S. policy failures for Mideast success?

Condi has got to go. She behaves more irrationally every time she tries to "do" something. This has got to be the final indication of her inability to deal with her job. The longer she stays in place, the sooner she will compromise American long term security.
FROM JEWISHWORLDREVIEW.COM:
Rice tapping U.S. policy failures for Mideast success?
By Diana West
A funny thing happened last Friday. Or, rather, it didn't. A hunk of juicy news broke, hit the wires and fell with a thud into media oblivion. No one cared.

And what did no one care about? Let me quote from the original Reuters story: "Anxious not to repeat mistakes of past Middle East peace-making, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has turned to former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter for tips ahead of her own conference [in Annapolis] this year."

Wait a minute. Miss Rice has turned to Bill Clinton, who famously told Yasir Arafat, "You have made me a failure," and whose wife, of course, is running for president as the anti-Bush? And to Jimmy "Day 444 of the Hostage Crisis" Carter, who can't stand the Bush administration almost as much as he can't stand Israel? The last time these two ex-presidents got together, they sealed a deal with Kim Jong-il, that, in exchange for a promise to eschew nuclear weapons, delivered nuclear technology to North Korea. She's turning to them for tips?

Crackdown suspends Pakistan constitution

This is extremely serious. Things are becoming more unstable in Pakistan. In effect, the radicals there are one bullet away from controlling nuclear missiles. Condi is not being helpful.

NEW DELHI

Facing a decision by Supreme Court judges that could have declared his continued leadership of Pakistan unconstitutional, President Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency Saturday, suspending the nation's constitution and firing the chief justice.

In a televised speech to the nation early Sunday, the president cited "interference" by the country's judiciary and rising extremist violence in the country as the reasons for the declaration, which U.S. officials had warned against just a day earlier.

"Pakistan is on the verge of destabilization," Musharraf insisted. "With all my conviction and with all the facts available to me, I consider that inaction at this moment is suicide for Pakistan."

But U.S. officials called the move by their leading anti-terrorist ally in the volatile region "disappointing."

The results of brilliant theories

Another outstanding analysis of Condoleezza Rice's dangerous positions on Israel and North Korea. It's almost as if Condi were working for the other side.
by Caroline B. Glick.
FROM JEWISHWORLDREVIEW.COM:
The results of brilliant theories
By Caroline B. Glick
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's opinion of Russian President Vladimir Putin seems directly correlated to his hostility towards America. In this vein, Rice defends her support for Russian inclusion in the G-7, (or now G-8), by arguing that it enables the club of industrial democracies to "influence" Putin.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, former world chess champion and current leader of Putin's liberal political opposition Gary Kasparov responded ironically to Rice's notion. "Occasionally you have to look at the results of your brilliant theories," he said.
But as the date of her departure from office approaches, Rice's unwillingness to examine the results of any of her brilliant theories only increases. Take North Korea for example.

Condi hops down the rabbit hole (again)

Caroline B. Glick nails it again. Just what is Condi thinking? or drinking? It's about time that John Bolton take over as Secretary of State, and carry on into the new administration. We just can't afford to have State continue to sell us down the river to the Islamists and another assorted despots.
FROM JEWISHWORLDREVIEW:
In the name of ‘promoting peace,’ Rice and her Israeli underlings could foment a new war
By Caroline B. Glick
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is moving boldly down the rabbit hole. This week, Rice is due back in the Middle East for meetings in Jerusalem and Ramallah. The purpose of her upcoming visit, like her previous ones, will be to pressure the Olmert government and the Fatah terror organization to reach "substantive agreements" that she'll be able to present to the world at her peace summit in Maryland next month.
It is far from clear what American interests Rice is advancing with her unswerving effort to reach a peace accord between Israel and Fatah. Indeed, Rice's efforts are detrimental to US interests in the region.
On Tuesday, 77 senators signed a letter to Rice regarding her plans for the summit. Among other things, the senators called on the Arab states, which Rice hopes will participate, to "recognize Israel's right to exist and not use such recognition as a bargaining chip for future Israeli concessions."
