The Growing Threat from Female Suicide Bombers

More sexual equality in Islam.

FROM JEWISHWORLDREVIEW.COM:
The Growing Threat from Female Suicide Bombers

By Steven Emerson

Two women believed to be Chechen rebels blew themselves up in Moscow's metro during morning rush hour Monday, killing at least 35 people and injuring 100 more.

Law enforcement officials in Washington and New York beefed up security in their respective subway systems in response.

The attacks at Lubyanka and Park Kultyry stations come on the heels of a recent threat assessment issued by the Office of Intelligence and Operations Coordination at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency.

The Investigative Project has reviewed the sensitive, but unclassified, assessment, Female Suicide Bombers, which puts the attacks in Russia in the context of a broader threat. Referencing open source reporting, the primary finding of the threat assessment is that:

"al Qa'ida terror cells have trained a group of female suicide bombers to attack Western targets including airlines. These women may have a non Arab appearance and may be traveling on Western passports."

These "bombshells" are part of an evolving terrorist threat challenging U.S. law enforcement to reassess not only the physical and psychological characteristics of terrorists but also the methods available for concealing explosives.

As the report details, while the Moscow bombing is the most recent, it falls into a long line of attacks by female suicide bombers. "Since 1985, there have been in excess of 262 women suicide bombers," it says.

The first known female suicide bomber may have been 16 year old Sana'a Youcef Mehaidli, a member of the secular Syrian Social Nationalist Party. On April 9, 1985, Mehaidli drove an explosive laden truck into an Israeli Defense Force convoy, killing two soldiers and injuring another two.

KEVIN TOOLIS: How I came face to face with Taliban teen killers

Intent to kill: Farman Ulla and Abdul Quboshi, both 16, were captured before their bomb exploded

This is a look deep into what makes islamic terrorists tick and how they are created. Kevin Toolis interviews a failed 16 year old Afghan suicide bomber.

KEVIN TOOLIS: How I came face to face with Taliban teen killers

Here I am deep inside the secret police headquarters in Kabul in a shabby office.
The walls are filthy, the furniture stained and the telephones look as if they were installed by the Russian invaders back in the Eighties.
And then the door opens and the Taliban’s terrifying new weapon is ushered in — the child suicide bomber.

Farman Ulla is just 16, though he looks much younger. He is thin, malnourished and with a face scarred by acne.
It is hard to believe this scrawny boy is a terrorist.
He was captured by Afghanistan intelligence agents while on a mission to detonate a bomb which would have killed himself and dozens of others in Jalalabad.

If he lost his nerve then his ‘back-up’ — another boy — would detonate the bomb for him by remote control.
It was a boy just like Farman, grinning from ear to ear as he pushed an explosive-laden wheelbarrow, who killed three Royal Marines in Helmand with his suicide bomb last week.

I’ve come to Kabul to this secret police headquarters to find out just how the Taliban can convince an Afghan boy to become a human bomb.
The first question I ask Farman is about death: is he not afraid of dying?
‘Oh no, even before you blow yourself up the virgins come to the site of the explosion and wait for you to take you to paradise,’ he says confidently, parroting his Taliban masters, who promise suicide bombers they will be rewarded with virgins for their act.

Then, chillingly, he smiles. As he looks at me with his boyish grin, the door of the interrogation room opens again and Farman’s accomplice, Abdul Quboshi, is brought in.
In the corner of the room on the floor is a suicide bomb vest similar to the one worn by Farman.

Terrorism: Last days of suicide bomber revealed by ex-al-Qaeda members

A chilling look into the making and handling of a suicide bomber.

FROM ADNKRONOS.COM:

Terrorism: Last days of suicide bomber revealed by ex-al-Qaeda members
Algiers, 4 April (AKI) - Former members of the Al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb have revealed the details of the last days of a suicide bomber in a report published in the Algerian newspaper Ech-Chourouk.

"Once chosen for the suicide attack, the suicide bomber is isolated by the other mujahadeen and is kept in the dark about the plans for the attack until a few minutes before its execution," said the report.

The newspaper put together the testimonies of several ex-terrorists from the Algeria based al-Qaeda group and described in detail the way in which a suicide bomber is selected and how the bomber spends the last few days of his or her life.

"About three weeks before they go into action, they call their families to say goodbye," it said.

"They are then excluded from their original terror cell and join a new group composed only of aspiring suicide bombers who know that they will die soon for the cause of Jihad."

Suicide bomber kills 50 in northern Afghanistan

The religion of peace strikes again. This attack also killed children. Does Islam have no shame or sense of humanity? When is the west going to wake up and acknowledge the savagery of Islam and take the necessary steps to purge it from its society?
FROM REUTERS.COM:
Suicide bomber kills 50 in northern Afghanistan
By Tahir Qadiry
MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A suicide attack on a parliamentary delegation killed at least 50 people in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday, a provincial official said, in the worst such blast in the country's history.
Five members of the Afghan parliament were among the dead and the toll was expected to rise among the delegates and schoolchildren who were among the victims.
"We have recorded 50 people dead so far, but there are still bodies on the streets we have not counted and some of the dead have already been taken away by their relatives," Baghlan provincial security chief Abdurrahman Sayedkhail told Reuters.
The attack took place as the parliamentary delegation was visiting a sugar factory in the town of Baghlan. Large crowds greeted the parliamentarians, who were on an economic fact-finding mission.

Suicidal Terrorists For Sale

Some insight into the mechanics of developing suicide bombers.
Suicidal Terrorists For Sale
FROM STRATAGYPAGE:
September 22, 2007: Al Qaeda was originally described as a group of well organized terrorists, who were quick to use the latest technology and paid attention to logistics and financial matters (fund raising, and staying on top of corruption). That's all generally true, but another area of al Qaeda success is, well, human resources. Take, for example, the business of recruiting suicide bombers. Al Qaeda recognizes that this is a "push/pull" situation. Thus the "pull" (making suicide bombers heroic and attractive figures) is done via emphasizing the martyr angle, and all the religious connotations. This plays well in Islamic countries. Cash payments to the families also adds to the allure. Still, most young men are not dumb enough to fall for the offer to blow themselves up for the Love of God. And those that can be tempted, often need some effort, by someone who is good at persuading people to kill themselves. Further incentives are needed. Not for the suicide bomber, but for the guy who recruits him. Thus it is common to pay finders fees for those who bring in a suicide bomber recruit. In Algeria, the bounty averages about $500 these days. Its less in countries where there are more desperate, unemployed young men. It's more in countries where the economy is booming. But the recruiter has an incentive, and the incentive works.

Lawmaker Sees Car Bombings in U.S. Future

This is of course obvious to anyone monitoring world events. Car bnombs and sucicide bombers will only be two of many types of attacks that will take place here. Once a large attack occurs, it will trigger many "home grown" and sleeper cell terrorists to go into action. I've been convinced for some time that terrorists from many sects have been infiltrating the US and have been working on their plans. It's only a matter of time till all hell breaks loose.

The former top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said al Qaeda is a real and growing threat to the United States.
"This is a very dangerous world. It's an era of terror, and fixing this problem will not be easy," said Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) at a briefing held by the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.
"We can see in regions there is now al Qaeda ... there will surely be an umbrella group in Europe and possibly [a group] here," she said, noting that "car bombings and suicide bombings are likely to be in our future."
"Over the last six years and one day, al Qaeda has changed considerably," Harman added. "Instead of a top-down organization, there is a loose horizontal affiliation among many groups, and they are everywhere.
"They have attacked in Europe, and there have been a number of arrests in Europe as well ... but there have been arrests here too over the years," she said. "There have been arrests, but no attacks."
