THE NEXT ATTACK
There is a percepiton that the next terrorist attack will consist of perhaps a few major events and then things will get back to normal. While it is highly likely that a major attack(s) will take place, there will be a new component to things. I think there will be a combination of several types of terrorist activity. At some point, a major attack by say al Qaeda (perhaps a dirty bomb, chemical/biological event) will trigger many home grown independents and trained sleeper cells. We have already experienced a number of “sudden jihad” attacks in the past few years. There have also been a number of probes and surveillance activities that have made the news. (how many have not been publicized or detected?) Those Islamists who would not act under current conditions will be inspired to join in the jihad for the greater glory of Islam. The Jihadi are out there, just waiting for orders, or in the case of independents, a chance to join the Great Jihad.
All the “regular” methods of attack will be employed: suicide bombers, firearms assaults, sabotage of infrastructure, hostage taking or just running people down with a vehicle etc. None of this has to be hi-tech or expensive, it just has to happen in a short period of time. The net effect of this scenario is that it will overwhelm federal and local law enforcement and emergency responders, compounding the panic and breakdown of daily life. We can also expect the “mainstream” Islamic front groups to come forward and offer to “guide” us in how to appease the attackers; read surrender to Sharia. The bottom line is: Will we rise to the occasion in a tidal wave of rage and retaliation, or roll over and whimper on the way to the Mosque.
A major multi front attack on America or any European country(s) will create havoc around the world. We live in a mercantile society, and it depends on the free flow of trade. Stock markets will see huge losses, normal trade will be suspended and the day to day activities of normal citizens will become very difficult. This is of course the goal of al Qaeda. The final irony here is that the very Islamic countries who aid and abet if not outright attack the west, depend on the west for their very economic survival.
