The Worthiest of Causes
I found this at Blackfive and want to put it up so more people will see it. Read it, check it out for yourself and see if you can help.
The Worthiest of Causes
FROM BLACKFIVE.COM:
One mighty Blackfive pal and Someone You Should definitely Know is Big John in Washington, DC. Big John has done more for our wounded vets than I have and is the one responsible for many initiatives including taking our wounded vets out on Friday nights to experience life away from the hospital.
Big John's VFW Post (8208) is virtual with no bar/canteen/restaurant. They don't handle memberships so they can't generate revenue that way. Most of the members (over 85%) are wounded vets currently recovering at Walter Reed or Bethesda and Big John will not ask those men and women to pay for their VFW memberships - VFW Post 8208 pays for the memberships. As wounded vet Josh Calloway put it in the Washington Post article about PTSD, "I can feel comfortable with the vets at the VFW."
Big John and his post need help with funds to keep the Walter Reed Friday Night bus running every week ($600 in gas per week and $1600 per year for insurance - not to mention repairs or maintenance). VFW Post 8208 also sponsors Sunday brunches for the troops.
Donations may be sent to:
VFW Post 8208
PO Box 653
Ruckersville VA 22968
If you would rather donate on-line: go to www.adoptasoldier.us http://www.adoptasoldier.us/
and Click through the PayPal links. In the Item field type "The Virginia Organizing Project ATTN: AdoptASoldier". John and the VFW post obviously get funds faster via the VFW route as all funds that are raised with the VFW go straight to the Relief Fund for the troops. No donations are spent on staff or overhead. Ever dollar goes to supporting the troops.
Thanks!
