Terrorist jailed for UK suicide bomb plot is caught trying to go to Syria

This is a perfect example why all Muslims convicted of any terrorist offence must be imprisoned for life and a day.  We see more of this every day and the rate of recidivism is about 80%, that we know of.  Every Western country is facing the same growing problem their Muslim residents or citizens fighting in some far off Islamic hell hole and then returning home to wage jihad.

A convicted terrorist who plotted an attack in the UK has been caught trying to travel to Syria, it emerged last night.

The fanatic – part of a suicide bomb plot – had only recently been freed from jail after serving a lengthy sentence.

Officials stopped him as he tried to leave Britain for Turkey, which is the route commonly taken by extremists heading to Syria to fight alongside al-Qaeda.

Significantly, it is believed to be the first time a terrorist who has served time in a UK jail has been caught trying to enter the war-torn country.

The revelation highlights the growing link between British terrorists and Syria.

Yesterday, Home Office minister James Brokenshire warned that the threat to the UK posed by individuals who have trained and fought in Syria is ‘a big problem’ that will last for years.

Security officials are closely monitoring 250 British-based jihadis linked to the country.

They have returned after fighting alongside fanatics overseas and include several hardliners who have fought in Afghanistan or Pakistan.

They are suspected by MI5 of wanting to carry out attacks here or of inciting others to do so.

Officials have already thwarted one serious plot last autumn by a cell of returning jihadis who were allegedly preparing a Mumbai-style gun attack on civilians. The case is due to come before the courts later this year.

Mr Brokenshire said ‘a significant and growing proportion’ of police and security services resources was being spent on the issue.

Speaking on Radio 4’s The World This Weekend, he predicted that the ‘security  concern’ linked to Syria was ‘likely to be with us for the foreseeable future’.
