Newt is right.

The Iranian's achieving the ability to launch their own satellites, along with a near certainty of their gaining nuclear weapons, poses an enormous threat not only to the Middle East, but to the world in general. As he points out, such a combination would allow Iran to perform first strike against America with very few missiles. They are known to be developing ship launched missiles, which would allow them to get within "point blank" range for a nuclear EMP attack. Such an attack would devastate the economies and way of life of not only the countries or regions attacked, but the entire global balance of power and trade would be disrupted.

While that would not stop a US submarine borne counter attack, it would create enormous confusion and uncertainty as to who attacked, and how we should respond. An insane Islamic mullocracy in Iran might just think they could get away with crippling the US and not get vaporized by the submarine fleet. Add to that the belief by the Poison Dwarf that the Mahadi is coming soon to lead Iran and Islam into world dominance, and the West doesn't have much in the way of deterrence.

By the way, such an attack would certainly trigger global uprisings of Muslims in an unprecedented Jihad on the non-Muslim world.

There is a sword of Damocles over our heads. It is a threat that is real but has been all but ignored.

On February 3rd, Iran launched a “communications satellite” into orbit. At this very moment, North Korea is threatening to do the same. The ability to launch an alleged communications satellite belies a far more frightening truth. A rocket that can carry a satellite into orbit can also drop a nuclear warhead over any location on the planet in less than forty-five minutes.
Far too many timid or uninformed sources maintain that a single launch of a missile poses no true threat to the United States given our retaliatory power. A reality check is in order and must be discussed in response to such an absurd claim:

One small nuclear weapon, delivered by an ICBM can, in fact, destroy the United States by maximizing the effect of the resultant electromagnetic pulse upon detonation.

An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) is a by-product of detonating an atomic bomb above the Earth’s atmosphere. When a nuclear weapon is detonated in space, the gamma rays emitted trigger a massive electrical disturbance in the upper atmosphere. Moving at the speed of light, this overload will short out all electrical equipment, power grids and delicate electronics on the earth’s surface. In fact, it would take only one to three weapons exploding above the continental United States to wipe out our entire grid and transportation network. It might take years to recover from, if ever.

Pogo summed up Israel's political positions when he said "we have seen the enemy and he is us". As Iran develops long range missiles with nuclear capability, Israel dithers with anti-missile defenses that won't be ready for several years. As Hezbollah, Hamas, and Fatah are being re-supplied by Iran and Syria, Livni wants to give away large tracts of Israel in exchange for more promises that the Arabs will not attack again, a formula that has cost Israel dearly every time it trusted the Arabs.

Ms. Glick goes on to outline the real threat of an Iranian EMP attack on the U.S. and or Europe.

As Iran develops a nuclear EMP attack capability, Western intelligence agencies give the threat a low priority. Iran is known to be testing sea launched missiles and has just launched a crude satellite into low orbit. With those capabilities, Iran could stage EMP attacks against the U.S., Europe, and India with only three nuclear tipped missiles.

Such attacks would leave Western societies a chaotic state for several years, and destroy the international monetary system. In the meantime, local, home-grown Jihadists and formal sleeper cells will emerge to spread terroristic attacks to further wreak havoc in the West.

Majority Muslim countries such as Indonesia and Maylasia will go totally Sharia in a matter of weeks, and countries such as India with large Muslim minorities will experience open rebellion and riotiing by Muslims in their attempt to impose Sharia. Western countries will experience massive rioting and looting by enraged Muslim mobs.

The outgoing Kadima-Labor government's anticipated decision to release a thousand terrorists, including several dozen mass murdering terror commanders, in the framework of a ceasefire deal with Iran's Palestinian proxy Hamas is simply the latest troubling legacy that the Olmert-Livni-Barak government is leaving its successor.
Once the deal goes through, Hamas will be able to quickly expand the threat it poses to Israel. The jihadist group is already using the political legitimacy Israel is conferring on it to reestablish its unity government with Fatah. When that government is formed, the US and Europe will move hastily to recognize the terror group.

Hamas will use its increased legitimacy as a screen behind which it will expand its offensive capabilitiesThis is particularly true in the field of ballistic weapons.
We know this will happen because we have already seen what happened with the last Iranian proxy that Israel signed a ceasefire agreement with. Since Israel agreed to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and brought its war with Hizbullah to an end in August 2006, Hizbullah has reasserted its political and military control over south Lebanon and has taken over the Lebanese government. Moreover, it has massively expanded its missile capabilities not only by tripling the size of its arsenal, but by tripling the range of its missiles.

In 2006, Hizbullah's most powerful missile was a Fajr rocket with a 100 km range and a 50 kilogram warhead. Today, according to Avi Schnurr, executive director of the Israel Missile Defense Association, Hizbullah has an arsenal of Fatah-110 ballistic missiles with a range of 300 kilometers and a 600 kilogram payload.
While our media elites endlessly drone on about whether or not Likud is sufficiently "pro-peace" to satisfy Meretz and Kadima, our national discourse is ignoring the greatest threat this country faces: missiles.

As the Iranians move closer to obtaining nuclear weapons, we need to begin thinking about what this could mean for our civilization. With only approximately one percent of shipping containers entering the country being inspected; with our borders as porous as ever; and, with terrorist cells around the world waiting to be activated, the United States, itself, could be held hostage by the Iranians or even be subject to an attack from which it would be almost impossible to recover.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has already proclaimed his desire to eliminate the United States as a force in the world. And with a new era of WMD in the hands of fanatical mullahs or their terrorist allies, one thing is becoming increasingly clear in the War for the Free World: We can lose. And losing doesn’t mean that our economy is set back by a few percentage points of growth or increased unemployment; or even suffers the death of a few thousand Americans as happened on September 11th.

The United States could be devastated even more thoroughly than Germany or Japan in World War II: our society as we know it can be destroyed, unambiguously, completely, perhaps irretrievably.
Terrorism has been a worldwide scourge for close to 40 years now, and the prospects for the future – unless there is a precipitous change – only look worse. We cannot wall up, we cannot roof over, the United States. Terrorism is no longer a matter of the 19th-century anarchist’s revolver or the explosive parcel left in a railroad station.
New technologies, loose nukes, broken nation states, and toxic ideologies infecting entire cultures, combined with the far flung and delicate sinews of a modern society, make us physically vulnerable in a way that is completely new, even as we have been made more psychologically vulnerable by a defeatist, appeasement-minded media and intellectual elite.
The game may be played and ended in an instant. As an example: two nuclear explosions, one in Washington, D.C. and one in New York City, and our society as we know it ends. The capital, with its government centers and vast bureaucracy that acts as national organizer and paymaster, gone; New York, with corporate headquarters, and the center of the communications and financial nervous system of the United States, destroyed.
With the threat of further attacks, there would be a mass exodus from our cities. Even the mere possibility of further attacks would make city life nearly impossible and sow a terrible uncertainty that would send the economy into a tailspin and paralyze reconstruction. Without these population centers and the civilization that has grown up around them, our society as we know it would be hard pressed to survive.

Even worse than a nuclear weapon may be the effects of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), either generated by a purpose designed weapon or given off by a nuclear weapon exploded above the United States or even off shore. The Islamic Republic or terrorist allies could approach undetected (Reports indicate that the Iranians have tested ship-based missiles) with a weapon that would emit radio waves that extended from a height of, say, 25 miles to a distant horizon that would permanently destroy any and all electric and electronic devices – and these days that includes everything from toasters to city water systems to military equipment – in line of sight from the blast.
Effects would cascade across the country: Business investment stops with the result of massive unemployment; there is no food, clean water, fuel or electric power and perhaps worst of all, no supplies or equipment to repair or replace damaged components. Social security checks remain unsent, ATMs go dark, transportation and communications systems are shattered. The police would be overwhelmed, the worst elements in society ascendant.
