BUDDHISTS RIOT IN MALMO

Roving bands (gangs) of Buddhists took to the streets again to commit arson and destroy private property.

No, wait. It's Baptists that are rioting on Malmo.

No, that's not right either.

Does anyone know just who these "youths" are?

The unrest began in Oxie, a suburb south-west of central Malmö, when a skip began burning soon after 7.30pm on Monday evening. Police confirmed that security guards and passers-by were shot at with fireworks and several more fires were started.

The Christmas tree on the main square in Oxie was one of the targets and local resident Bo Persson expressed concern over recent developments.

"It has been awful lately. They should really ban fireworks. It is just a small number that are behind this carry on and ruin it for us all," he said to local newspaper Sydsvenskan.

Ten police units were sent to the area during the evening and by 11pm four young men had been arrested for public order offences.

Trouble first flared up in Oxie on December 8th. Since then police and emergency services have been sent to the area on a round 20 occasions.

On Sunday a police car had its windows broken, and there have been several reports of arson and fireworks being shot towards balconies and people.

Malmö fire-fighters will in the future be given a police escort when visiting the suburb of Rosengård.
Fire-fighters have demanded protection after having been repeatedly subjected to stone throwing and death threats.

Authorities decided on Thursday to provide protection to fire-fighters after a call-out on Thursday evening turned violent. Fire-fighters were subjected to stone-throwing and received death threats when battling a blaze in Rosengård, according to SVT.

Fire-fighters are now required to await a police escort before entering the area.

This is not the first, or the last, time that fire services have been subjected to stone-throwing and threats. On Friday at around 5pm stones rained down once again on a fire engine on a call-out to extinguish a fire at a school on Rosens väg. A window was broken in the tumult.

Bus traffic has previously been interrupted on several occasions as buses have become a target for stone-throwing youths.

The bus operators' safety representative has highlighted the dangers faced by bus drivers working on routes through Rosengård and certain routes have been periodically declared off limits.

Rosengård is not alone to have experienced the problems, busses in other areas of the city have also been subjected to stone-throwing youths.
