There is little argument that the 21st century has started with a bang. The internet bubble burst, the stock market tanked and the Twin Towers fell. That was just the first two years. Historically the changing of centuries has never been easy, but ultimately new ideas led to new solutions to previously unsolved problems and the community of mankind moved ahead. The 20th century was not easy by any stretch of the imagination; two world wars and the emergence of atomic weapons. But the discoveries that helped mankind clearly outweighed the destructive nature of a few.
What the world faces today is a millennium transition with hope and opportunity on one side of the human equation and despair and barriers on the other. The challenge in this century will be to recognize different solutions from different places that could have a dramatic outcome on balancing this equation so that hope and opportunity are the catalysts that drive the solutions of this new millennium. What is happening in the Islamic world is the genesis of some of these new ideas and solutions for this new century, solutions to the global problems of poverty, corruption and conflict between cultures and faiths. The objective is clear and never more necessary - peace and prosperity in our time
