Islamic law 'part of deal'

Well, this is a major victory for the Tahrik Nifaz Shariat Mohammadi or the Movement for the Enforcement of Islamic Law in Pakistan. The Pakistani government has ceded control of the Swat region, only about 100 miles from Islamabad, to Sharia law, which by definition precludes civil law. The government claim that "This will bring peace in Swat for sure," means there will be the "peace" of the brutal and homicidal Taliban interpretation of Sharia.

With this large area under total Taliban control it will surely serve as a staging area for more Taliban expansion. Pakistan needs to invite Western powers to help it fight the Taliban/alQaeda expansion on the ground within in Pakistan.

Islamic law 'part of deal'

Pakistan - Muslim militants in northwest Pakistan said on Monday that the government had agreed to impose Islamic law as part of a proposed peace deal in the lawless region where al-Qaeda and Taliban militants increasingly hold sway.
The deal - expected to be announced later on Monday - would cover the Swat valley, a one-time tourist destination where Taliban militants have been brutally enforcing a hard-line version of Islamic law, burning schools and attacking government targets and security forces since the middle of last year when an earlier deal broke down.

Several past deals with militants in northwest Pakistan have failed and been criticised by the United States as merely giving insurgents time to regroup, but Pakistan says force alone cannot defeat the extremists wreaking havoc there and attacking US troops in neighbouring Afghanistan.
