Useless Fort Hood Leaves Americans Unprotected

Another Diana West tour de force.

FROM TOWNHALL.COM:

Useless Fort Hood Leaves Americans Unprotected
by Diana West

"Do you believe in 'radical Islam'?" the famous Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders once asked me.

The occasion was a banquet last summer at the Reagan Library outside of Los Angeles where later that evening Wilders would receive a Hero of Conscience award from the American Freedom Alliance. I would have the honor of introducing him. "What did you say?" I could barely hear him over the speaker at the podium elaborating on the perils of, yes, "radical Islam."

"'Radical Islam,'" he repeated. "Do you think there is 'radical Islam,' or only 'Islam'"?

Me, I'm an "only Islam" kind of gal, as I told him. Who am I to argue with Muslims ranging from terror-cleric Abu Qatada to Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan? Erdogan is particularly interesting as a democratically elected Islamic leader who eschews all word-modifiers of Islam including "moderate," the adjective the media often applies to his AKP political party. "These descriptions are very ugly," Erdogan said in 2007. "It is offensive and an insult to our religion. There is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam, and that's it." Erdogan has also bluntly rejected descriptions of Turkey itself as an example of "moderate Islam," saying last April: "It is unacceptable for us to agree with such a definition. Turkey has never been a country to represent such a concept. Moreover, Islam cannot be classified as moderate or not."

I mention this now because after the fireworks over Scott Brown's U.S. Senate victory in Massachusetts have died down, we will have to return to the same, old, equal parts humdrum and deadly wrangle over how to think, talk about and grapple with Islam in what remains a post-9/11 world.

Two related events took place just as the Massachusetts miracle sucked the oxygen from non-election news excepting Haiti coverage. First, the Pentagon report on the Fort Hood massacre came out. It is 86 pages long and doesn't mention the words "Muslim," "Islam," "jihad," "Sharia" (Islamic law), "Koran" -- despite the fact that we know, among other things, that the killer, who initiated his massacre with a cry of "Allahu Akbar," was a Muslim inspired by Islam to perform an act of jihad as sanctioned by Sharia derived from the Koran.

These facts, however, rate official silence. So what else is new? From the Bush years to the present, see-no-Islam denial has turned U.S. government attempts to assess and discuss national security issues into Kabuki gibberish, a perpetual exercise in make-believe that the core doctrines and traditional institutions of Islam -- not "radical Islam," not "Islamism," not other aliases -- pose no threat to the core doctrines and traditional institutions of the non-Islamic Free World. Naturally, mum's the Pentagon word over jihad at Fort Hood. Or, rather, "self-radicalization" is the word. It is mentioned more than a dozen times in the report.

I can't imagine a greater dereliction of duty than this failure of U.S. government leaders to recognize, articulate and defend against what in military parlance is known as the "enemy threat doctrine." But this dereliction, this failure will trigger no investigations or court proceedings on how and why our leaders consistently mask, soft-soap and otherwise fail to assess and repel the existential threat posed by the imposition or accommodation of these same Islamic doctrines.

Talk about irony: Within days of the report's release, one of the few politicians in the world who understands, articulates and fights the imposition and accommodation of these same Islamic doctrines went on trial in the Netherlands for doing exactly that.

I refer again to Geert Wilders, now enmeshed in a Kafkaesque court trial in which the Dutch government is subverting its own democratic institutions -- namely, freedom of speech and the will of the people -- in an effort to shut down Wilders and his political opposition to the Islamization of the Netherlands. The government's case rests on Wilders' increasingly successful efforts to win support for his anti-Islamization program from the Dutch people through speeches, writings and the short film "Fitna" (easily viewable online) -- a body of work that only a tyrannical, Islamically correct government could designate as "evidence" of a crime.

How Dutch government officials must envy America's Sharia-compliant public servants who willingly generate see-no-Islam blather such as the Fort Hood report.

They can have it.

Ft Hood Terrorist Claims His Rights Being Violated

Can't make this stuff up.

FROM YID WITH LID:

BOO-Freakin-HOO.
Ft Hood Terrorist Claims His Rights Being Violated

Only in the PC world of the United States would this even be an issue. Major Nidal Hasan, the Islamist Terrorist who brutally killed 14 people and wounded another thirty-two, feels his rights are being violated.  Hasan who is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of being shot by police trying to prevent any further victims, is whining that the military court are are not allowing him to speak to others in Arabic, only in his native language, English.

The lead lawyer for Fort Hood shooting suspect Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan said Monday that he believes the Army is violating Hasan's religious rights because it prohibited him from praying from the Quran in Arabic with a relative.

Attorney John P. Galligan said he learned that police guarding Hasan at Brooke Army Medical Center cut short a phone conversation Hasan was having with one of his brothers on Friday because Hasan was not speaking in English.

“Police at the hospital refused to let him pray, in Arabic, from the Quran with his brother,” Galligan said. “I think it's illegal and a violation of his religious rights.”

Hasan practices Islam, a religion whose followers hold that Jumu'ah (Friday) prayers are one of its most strongly affirmed duties.

His command, the Army's III Corps at Fort Hood in Killeen, has imposed pretrial restrictions on him, including a requirement that he speak only in English with visitors or those he talks to on the phone unless an Army-approved translator is present. Messages seeking comment were left Monday for III Corps officials. The calls and e-mails were not returned.

Such a restriction would be unusual in the civilian criminal justice system, but not so in the military system, according to those familiar with it. In the civilian world, inmates have successfully challenged religious limitations imposed by jails and prisons.

In the military system, Hasan's command may have considered that he is a threat based on his previous actions. The day of the shootings, the Army has said, some witnesses claimed that an armed Hasan got on a table and yelled “God is great” in Arabic before or as he opened fire on troops and others in the Soldier Readiness Center at Fort Hood. Some have also said Hasan, a military psychiatrist for Army troops, did not want to deploy to Afghanistan with his unit because he did not want to kill other Muslims.

That backdrop, some argue, provides justification for the military to severely restrict his activities for security reasons.

“He's under military control,” said Jeffrey Addicott, a former Judge Advocate General's Corps officer for 20 years, who now heads the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Mary's University School of Law. “They can put reasonable restrictions on his movements and activities. The question is what is reasonable. In light of the fact that he is clearly influenced by radical jihad, in my opinion, it's entirely reasonable to limit his spoken activities to English.”

English is Hasan's primary language, and he learned Arabic later in life, according to news accounts. Addicott argued that because Arabic is not Hasan's primary language and there may not be Arabic-speaking guards available, the military is justified in its restrictions.

Hasan's Article 32 hearing, which is similar to a grand jury or probable cause hearing in the civilian system, is expected to take place early in 2010. Some congressional leaders, in the meantime, have said they will postpone hearings looking into what intelligence terrorism task forces knew about Hasan until after the Army's investigation is complete.

Hasan better understand he is not in a civilian court (unless the POTUS moves him). He not only committed an act of terror but he betrayed his fellow soldiers, that is not looked upon very nicely by military authorities. Even in the US Military, sometimes Political Correctness gets passed over for logic.

Fort Hood brings in radical Muslim to speak on Islam.

This is hard to believe, but true. Juat a few weeks after the Ft. Hood terrorist attack by a Muslim Jihadist, the army is bringing an Islamist onto post to lecture the troops on Islam. Just what the hell are they thinking? or smoking?

Apparently the US government’s vetting procedures are not quite as good as google yet.
The US military, or some component of its leadership seems incapable of learning. Once again, we, the secular rational people of the western world have to depend on CBN, The Christian Broadcasting network, to inform us of the clinical certifiable insanity Western nations including the United States engage in, to sustain the illusion of multiculturalism and moral equivalence. Thank you to CBN for carrying the ball where the highly paid, massively staffed and very powerful ‘main stream news’ cannot and it’s incompetence borders on the criminal of Nuremberg proportions.

Tragedy or Scandal?

Mark Steyn again posits what will come of our accommodation of Muslim immigration into the West.  The Fort Hood massacre is just the beginning of the violent Islamic assault on America.  It's so obvious and well known that appeasement only brings more assaults that it's hard to understand the passive, nay, welcoming acceptance of Islam in Western society.  It's as if a cancer patient knows of his cancer, yet ignores the symptoms and refuses treatment for fear appearing too "aggressive".  Insanity, pure insanity

FROM NATIONALREVIEW.COM:

Tragedy or Scandal?
We weaseled and equivocated and appeased.

By Mark Steyn

Shortly after 9/11, there was a lot of talk about how no one would ever hijack an American airliner ever again — not because of new security arrangements but because an alert citizenry was on the case: We were hip to their jive. The point appeared to be proved three months later on a U.S.-bound Air France flight. The “Shoebomber” attempted to light his footwear, and the flight attendants and passengers pounced. As the more boorish commentators could not resist pointing out, even the French guys walloped him.

But the years go by, and the mood shifts. You didn’t have to be “alert” to spot Maj. Nidal Hasan. He’d spent most of the last half-decade walking around with a big neon sign on his head saying “JIHADIST. STAND WELL BACK.” But we (that is to say, almost all of us — and certainly almost anyone who matters in national security and the broader political culture) are now reflexively conditioned to ignore the flashing neon sign. Like those apocryphal Victorian ladies discreetly draping the lasciviously curved legs of their pianos, if a glimpse of hard unpleasant reality peeps through we simply veil it in another layer of fluffy illusions.

Two joint terrorism task forces became aware almost a year ago that Major Hasan was in regular e-mail contact with Anwar al-Awlaqi, the American-born but now Yemeni-based cleric who served as imam to three of the 9/11 hijackers and supports all-out holy war against the United States. But the expert analysts in the Pentagon determined that this lively correspondence was consistent with Major Hasan’s “research interests,” so there was no need to worry. That’s America: Technologically superior, money no object (not one but two “joint terrorism task forces” stumbled across him). Yet no action was taken.

On the other hand, who needs surveillance operations and intelligence budgets? Major Hasan was entirely upfront about who he was. He put it on his business card: “SOA.” As in “Soldier of Allah” — which seems a tad ungrateful to the American taxpayers who ponied up half a million bucks or thereabouts in elite medical-school education to train him to be a Soldier of Uncle Sam. In a series of meetings during 2008, officials from both Walter Reed and the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences considered the question of whether then-captain Hasan was psychotic. But, according to at least one bigwig at Walter Reed, members of the policy committee wondered “How would it look if we kick out one of the few Muslim residents?” So he got promoted to major and shipped to Fort Hood.

And 13 men and women and an unborn baby are dead.

Dick Morris: Obama Handcuffs Terror Probers

Dick Morris is right, the attack at Ft. Hood is a Muslim Jihadist terror attack and if we do not recognize that fact, we are in for many more deaths at the hands of our worst enemy, Islam.

FROM NEWSMAX.COM:

Dick Morris: Obama Handcuffs Terror Probers
By7 Jim Meyers

Veteran political analyst Dick Morris tells Newsmax that the Obama administration is "deliberately mischaracterizing" the Fort Hood massacre by refusing to admit it was a terrorist attack.

Morris also said the failure to recognize the danger posed by Major Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused of the killings, points to "Obama's failures in the war on terror."
Newsmax.TV's Kathleen Walter asked why President Obama, when he visited Fort Hood on Tuesday, stopped short of calling the massacre of 13 Americans an act of terrorism.

See Video: Dick Morris looks at how the Obama administration is dodging the real meaning behind the Fort Hood massacre - Click Here Now

"I think that ever since the gunfire ceased, the administration has been engaged in a shameful attempt to disguise the true nature of this attack," Morris said. "It was a terrorist attack.

"The difference between terror and murder does not relate to whether you're part of an organized group or not. It relates to the motivation behind the killing. If the motivation is political, it's terrorism. If it's not, it's just ordinary vanilla murder.

"Obviously this guy was motivated by the same passions that animate the terrorists that are attacking the United States ... Yet the administration from the very first second spoke of it as an act of violence. In his statement [Tuesday] Obama speaks of it as an act of violence, and then says no faith justifies this — as if this was a religious expression" and not a "political, terrorist attack.

"This was not religious, this was terrorism. And by failing to call it what it really is, Obama is doing a serious disservice to the men and women who gave their lives."
Walter noted that the FBI launched an internal review of how it handled early information about Hasan, and asked how this attack could occur eight years after 9/11.

"I think it's because Obama, from the very minute he's taken office, has second-guessed and handcuffed and marginalized those who are trying to keep us safe," Morris responded.

"He has investigators investigating their every action. Every time they interrogate a terror suspect, they take their careers — if not their lives — into their hands. And the fear of political correctness, the fear of opening a can of worms, of being accused of racial profiling, obviously had a big impact in stopping the FBI from passing this information on to the Army or from acting on it.

"We're witnessing the fruits of Obama's failures in the war on terror. And that's precisely why he doesn't want it to be called a terrorist act. He doesn't want us to realize that he is responsible, at least on his watch, for the first attack on our soil since 9/11...

"This entire process of spinning and deliberately mischaracterizing the attack is insidious and horrendous.
"I think the other fact we need to focus on is that these killings did not take place in a shopping mall or a high school. They took place on a military base. And if we don't have good security at a military base, where can we possibly have good security?"

Regarding the in-depth probe being called for by members of Congress, Morris declared: "I think we clearly need a probe. But I think what we need is an attitude adjustment, where we stop vilifying those who are trying to defend us and stop bending over backwards to accord every kind of sensitivity and presumption of innocence to those who are trying to attack us and kill us.
"We are demeaning the memory of these brave men and women by pretending that they were shot by an act of a psychotic killer as opposed to a military attack by a terrorist."

It Isn't Political Correctness; It's Shariah

FROM AMERICANTHINKER.COM:

It Isn't Political Correctness; It's Shariah

By Pamela Geller

In surveying the cultural carnage in the wake of the worst terrorist attack on a military installation in U.S. history, it bears noting that there have been seismic shifts in America. When America was free of the shackles of Islam, say, 50 years ago, the present type of response to an enemy faction's attack would have been unthinkable.

I have watched in abject horror the stunning reaction in this country to this act of war. The denial, the submission, the excuses, the dodging, the self-flagellation, the shame, the deceiving of the American people by the media, the military, society, law enforcement, authorities, and politicians, all the way up to and including the White House, amounts to the enforcement of Shariah.

You see, Shariah forbids criticism of Islam. And here we are.
We are witnessing an Islamized America. This is well beyond political correctness. We are enforcing Shariah. We will not insult Islam. That is Shariah. We self censor. That is Shariah. We disrespect ourselves, our nation, so that we might respect Islam. This is dhimmitude.

We should be raging. We should be outraged. We should be strategizing for this worldwide conflict. We should be debating about which leader will best handle Islam’s war on the West. And yet we have not one leader who begins to understand the conflict. That’s how feared the subject matter is — not one leader.

An interesting debate at National Review Online recently pitted soft conservatives who soft-pedal Islam against those who stand for reality of Islamic doctrine, conservative principles, and the essential truth. By and large, the conservatives have dropped the ball on Islamic jihad. This has been made painfully clear by the lack of a leader (any leader) on the right (i.e., Geert Wilders) who speaks to and takes up the fight against the sweeping Islamization of America.

The conservatives are not really as bad as the left is on Islam, but they get real only when there is jihadi “intervention” that invades and destroys the delusion of their narrative.

It is interesting to me that the hierarchy of the conservative movement (take CPAC, for example) stays far away from the counter-jihad forces (i.e., Robert Spencer, Andrew Bostom, myself) except at moments like these. Last year, there was not one speaker, one event at CPAC that spoke to the greatest threat this nation faces, which is why I staged the Geert Wilders event at the Omni Hotel, during CPAC (but not a CPAC event) last year.

When the reality of war, Islamic doctrine and bloodshed lays bare the nature of the enemy and the battle we are in, the door creaks open and Robert Spencer starts getting invited to appear on radio shows, and NRO finally runs pieces by Bostom and Spencer that show up the soft conservative narrative on Islam, which is soft and fuzzy and stupid (i.e., “Islamist” vs. “Islamic”).
Of course, we bad boys will be put back in our boxes until the next terrible time the jihad comes calling.

It pains me to say it, but expect to see us more frequently in the coming months and years. For the giant con job on the American psyche continues apace: He was a crazy! It was “vicarious” post-traumatic stress disorder! It was “pre-traumatic” stress disorder! It was radical extremism! It was part of a tiny fringe! It doesn’t represent Islam!

All lies. He was devout. He was a jihadist. Period. And many Muslims admire what he did. The left worries about Muslim backlash — how about Muslim backlash against the infidels? Every “Soldier of Allah” who goes jihad is an enemy combatant. Every devout Muslim who believes in the word of the Quran has his duty to Islam, her call to jihad. Hence this terrible act of war, the 14,363 Islamic attacks across the world since 9/11, and all of the relentless plots and plans to take down America in the past month alone. Devout Muslims should be prohibited from military service. Would Patton have recruited Nazis into his army?

I am writing this on Veterans Day. I call upon all Americans to step back, consider the unfathomable loss at Fort Hood, the ensuing apologia, and the tragic consequences of such behavior. This is a call to action. You’re either with us or against us.

Hasan Charged with 13 Counts of Murder for Fort Hood Massacre

13 counts of murder is fine and appropriate as far as it goes, but he must also be charged with a terrorist attack, and treason.  Anything less will miss the main cause of this atrocity, namely, waging Islamic Jihad and treason against America.  This case will become a benchmark in how we prosecute future Islamic attacks against America by american citizens.  Failure to prosecute for terrorism will set the wrong prescient.  Charges of Islamic Jihad terrorism and treason should be the primary charges, with the murder of 13 Americans serving as the core of those charges.

FROM NEWSMAX.COM:

Hasan Charged with 13 Counts of Murder for Fort Hood Massacre

FORT HOOD, Texas – The Army psychiatrist suspected in a deadly rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, has been charged in a military court with 13 counts of premeditated murder.

U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesman Chris Grey told a news conference Thursday at the Texas base that additional charges may also be filed against Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan.

Hasan is suspected of killing 12 soldiers and one civilian in last Thursday's shooting spree at Fort Hood. He was shot and wounded by two police officers at the base, and remains in recovery at an Army hospital in San Antonio. His attorney says he was read the charges at the hospital.

The massacre has been classified as the worst mass shooting on an American military base.

Hasan's motives still are being investigated, though revelations continued Thursday about the army officer’s contacts with Muslim radicals.
Reports have surfaced about possible communications Hasan may have had with terrorist groups, fear of his imminent deployment to the war in Afghanistan and potential psychiatric problems, but authorities working on the case have declined to confirm or comment on motive theories.

U.S. Officials Identifies Gunman at Fort Hood

"AP cites an unnamed source saying the gunman was Major Malik Nadal Hasan."

Is this another case of homegrown Jihad?

IMHO this has all the hallmarks of an Islamic attack on the West.  That there seem to be multiple shooters indicates that this is not just some deranged random attack, but a planned terrorist action to further the global Jihad.

There is a groundswell of Muslim honor killings, and attacks on civilians, and foiled Muslim terrorist plots in the past several years.  The more Islamic attacks that are perpetrated on American soil, the more attacks will be inspired by lone Jihadists and small cells.

The violent Global Jihad has been growing in other parts of the world for 20 years and is now reaching America.  One attack inspires another as pious Muslims take up the call to Jihad in order to further the spread of Islam.

No longer can these attacks by Muslims be written off as random acts by mentally deranged individuals.  The pattern is plain.

Of course, the home grown Jihadi are just the tip of the iceberg.  There must be many organized Muslim terrorist sleeper cells made up of foreign Islamists here illegally and waiting for the signal from abroad to attack.  Added to this is the soft Jihadists such as CAIR and the dozens of other Islamist fronts of the Muslim Brotherhood who have been subverting America for decades through propaganda and disinformation.

It's long past time to wake up and realize that Islam is the greatest threat to Western civilization ever.  This attack is a symbolic strike at the American military to try to get the US to withdraw from the war on Islamists.

Expect more attacks at the heart of America.

U.S. Officials Identifies Gunman at Fort Hood

A shooting rampage Thursday afternoon at the Army's Fort Hood in Texas killed 11 and wounded 31 before the gunman was killed and two suspects taken into custody.

All three of the people believed to have carried out the shooting were soldiers, Lt. General Bob Cone told reporters Thursday evening, though the motive remains unclear.

AP cites an unnamed source saying the gunman was Major Malik Nadal Hasan, though authorities have not publicly identified him.

Cone said witnesses reported seeing more than one shooter, but that couldn't be confirmed. The primary shooter used two handguns, he said.
The shooting took place 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the post's Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers undergo medical screening before being deployed or after returning from overseas.

"We have a terrible, tragic situation here," said Cone. "Soldiers, family members and the civilians that work here are absolutely devastated."
Cone said the injuries "vary significantly" among the victims wounded in the shooting. The victims include one civilian police officer.

George Stratton's son George Stratton III was five feet away from the shooter at the Soldier Readiness Center and suffered a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.
"I talked to him right before surgery. He said, 'Dad, I'm getting ready to go into surgery ... I love you,'" George Stratton told FoxNews.com.
It was the second time the 18-year-old from Idaho called his father after the shooting. The first time was a voice mail he left while in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
"Dad, I've just been shot and going to be OK. I'm in an ambulance," he said in the message.

President Obama called the shooting a "horrific outburst of violence" on members of the nation's armed forces. "It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an army base on American soil."
He said he doesn't yet know all the details but promised the government would get "answers to every single question."

Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said the shooting was a terrible tragedy for all of the military families affected.
The base and area schools were on lockdown after the mass shooting, and all those on the Army post were asked to gather for a head count.
