MEMRI transcribes an interview with a person claiming to be a former leader of al Qaeda in Iraq. Several things are striking. One is the rather striking disregard for human life, and the assumption in the discussion that one human being (if of the proper Muslim stripe) can and should kill everyone else. LOS ANGELES —
A police plan to map out Muslim communities, a proposal that civil rights groups sharply criticized as racial and religious profiling, has been shelved, a police spokeswoman said Wednesday.
The LAPD planned to have its counterterrorism bureau identify Muslim enclaves to determine which might be likely to become isolated and susceptible to "violent, ideologically based extremism."
Several Muslim groups and the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California criticized the plan and sent a letter to Deputy Chief Michael P. Downing expressing their concerns.
"There was a clear message from the Muslim community that they were not comfortable with it. So we listened," said Mary Grady, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. She couldn't immediately say when the plan might resume.
Grady said the remaining part of the initiative, which includes outreach efforts to strengthen ties with Muslim communities, would continue, and police planned to meet with Muslim leaders Thursday.
In a statement, Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, praised the decision.
"I am glad to hear (Downing) is putting the plan aside," Al-Marayati said. "All Muslim organizations are united in purpose to defend the rights of Muslim Americans while developing a positive and constructive relationship with the LAPD."
Downing and other city officials had defended the plan, saying the idea was to deepen ties with Muslim communities. The plan would have had data assembled by the University of Southern California's Center for Risk and Economic Analysis.
There are an estimated 500,000 Muslims in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.

Electronic Program of Jihad

This is an assessment of the Jihadi ability to conduct cyber attacks. I must disagree with the conclusion: "The biggest problem Islamic terrorists have with creating a hacker force is the generally low education levels in those countries that are most enthusiastic about Islamic terrorism."

It’s true that poorly educated folks won't be able to mount an effective cyber attack but there are many islamists with advanced degrees who can. Recently, Osama bin Laden, a successful engineer, put out a request for those with degrees to join the Jihad. Many Jihadi caught in recent years are well educated, but so far they have put their efforts into overt acts of terror. There may well be a strategic component which will coordinate cyber attacks with physical acts of terror. I think that we can expect more, and more successful cyber attacks from the Jihadi as time goes on.

( Diana West) looks at 24 Oklahoma lawmakers who declined to receive a gift of a personalized, state-seal-stamped Koran from an all-Muslim state advisory body. This is surely a surreal confluence of not church and state, but mosque and state, which, under Islam, are always fused in the system of sharia law--a system that denies all Western-style human rights.
So, in refusing the Koran, the legislators weren't simply and churlishly turning down a benign gift. There was a principle involved--namely, that the Koran promulgates an ideology at odds with Western-style liberty. Such a principle, in these PC times, is difficult to get across to people convinced of universalism or afraid of giving "offense" (or both). Of course, given the extreme "offensiveness" of Islamic religious discrimination or the Islamic institution of jihad, such a critique is nonsense. Imagine if the German-American Bund handed out copies of Mein Kampf to state lawmakers, and the ones that refused to accept a copy were labeled anti-Semitic. It’s that nuts.

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Islamic terrorist groups have networks in Latin America and the Caribbean and could use the region as a base to launch attacks on the United States, the senior U.S. military commander for the region says.
"For sure, members, facilitators, and sympathizers of Islamic terrorist organizations are present in our hemisphere," Adm. Jim Stavridis, head of the U.S. Southern Command, wrote in an article in the fall edition of Americas Quarterly journal, obtained by Reuters before publication.
"We consider Latin America and the Caribbean as being highly likely bases for future terrorist threats to the U.S. and others."

U.S. officials have warned of a militant presence in Latin America since the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. They have provided little concrete evidence and Brazil, which has a large Arab population, and some other regional governments have played down the threat.
But Stavridis was reiterating U.S. concerns after police said in June they had foiled a plot to sabotage New York's John F. Kennedy airport by suspects linked to the Caribbean.
The Lebanon-based Hezbollah was the most prominent group in Latin America, Stavridis said. Most of its activity appeared to be fund-raising but "there are indications of an operational presence and the potential for attacks."
A multinational task force has been set up in the so-called tri-border where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay meet, an area reputed to be a hotbed of money-laundering and smuggling.
Venezuela, a known area of Hizballah activity, must also not be overlooked, particularly when one considers Hugo Chávez' close relationships with figures like Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The head of border controls for Brazil's Federal Police disagreed with the admiral's contention.
"If I were a terrorist I'd launch an attack from England. Latinos face 10 times the controls that Europeans do at U.S. borders," Mauro Sposito said in an interview.
Brazilian authorities had no indication of terrorist cells in the tri-border region, he said, although they were aware of financial contributions to groups such as Hezbollah, which Brazil does not classify as a terrorist organization.
"They legally send money through Paraguay to the Hezbollah - it's a political party," Sposito said.

Another case of "Enemy Within". This article outlines the activities of a young man who uses the internet to spread Jihadi propaganda. The Article calls him an American, but also says "Born in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, Khan was 7 when his family moved to New York City and settled into Queens." There is no mention that he ever became a citizen. Perhaps deportation is in order.

When Osama bin Laden issued his videotaped message to the American people last month, a young jihad enthusiast went online to help spread the word.
"America needs to listen to Shaykh Usaamah very carefully and take his message with great seriousness," he wrote on his blog, referring to bin Laden by an alternative spelling. "America is known to be a people of arrogance."
Unlike bin Laden, the blogger was not operating from a remote location. It turns out he is a 21-year-old American named Samir Khan who produces his blog from his parents' home in North Carolina, where he serves as a kind of Western relay station for the multimedia productions of violent Islamic groups.

A seized computer held lots of material on bombmaking, a report says.

TAMPA - A suspended University of South Florida student facing explosives charges regarded American troops and U.S. allies as invaders of Arab countries, an FBI agent says in federal court documents filed this week.
The agent's affidavit gives more details about a secretly taped conversation between Ahmed Mohamed, 26, and fellow student Youssef Megahed, 21, and also about the contents of Mohamed's laptop.
In a sworn affidavit, FBI Special Agent Daniel J. McTavish said that when agents searched Mohamed's hard drive they found a folder named "Bomb Shock." It contained files of information on explosives, explosive ingredients and downloads from Web sites about explosives.
Investigators also found another folder labeled "High-Order Explosives," which included information on the composition and use of explosives, including TNT and C-4.
McTavish gave sworn testimony about the case in a court petition to more extensively search the car Mohamed and Megahed drove when a deputy pulled them over Aug. 4 in Goose Creek, S.C.
The deputy stopped the men for speeding and searched their car when he became suspicious.
Most of the details in McTavish's affidavit, filed Tuesday in a Charleston, S.C., federal court, already became public during a Sept. 14 bond hearing in Tampa.
The 2000 Toyota Camry the men drove remained in the custody of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina as of last week, McTavish said.
Mohamed's laptop also contained a 12-minute video on transforming a toy remote-controlled car into a detonator. The face of the man narrating the video wasn't seen, but FBI investigators said Mohamed admitted it was him.
"He explained that he made the tape to assist those persons in Arabic countries to defend themselves against the infidels invading their countries," McTavish said in his statement.
And Mohamed "added that the technology which he demonstrated in the tape was to be used against those who fought for the United States," he said.
When the men were stopped and their car searched, investigators also found pieces of PVC pipe cut into various sizes and filled with potassium nitrate, a box of .22-caliber bullets, an electric drill and gasoline.
The men were secretly recorded as they spoke in Arabic while being taken to the Sheriff's Office. According to the FBI report, Megahed said to Mohamed that he told investigators the gasoline was for the car.
The two men remain in a Hillsborough County jail awaiting a federal trial.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Pizza has scheduled an arraignment in his courtroom for both men on Oct. 3.

DEARBORN - Houssein Zorkot, a 26-year-old Dearborn resident, was arraigned Tuesday in 19th District Court on multiple felony charges, including carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent — a five-year felony.
Zorkot, a third-year medical student at Wayne State University, was allegedly armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and dressed in black clothing with camouflage paint covering his face when he was arrested Saturday in Hemlock Park.
According to police, Zorkot was observed attempting to leave the park in a black SUV after officers had received reports of a man carrying a rifle in the area. He was placed under arrest and is scheduled to undergo a preliminary examination at 9 a.m. Sept. 21 in 19th District Court.
Zorkot has also been charged with one count of possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and one count of felony firearm. He remains in custody on a $1 million bond (cash, no 10 percent).

Former CIA Director: Terrorist Strike Within U.S. Real Threat

This is an eye opening interview with James Woolsey on the likelihood of a terrorist attack(s) on the US in the near future. Folks, it's coming and all the denial and hoping it won't will only have the effect of making the aftermath even worse due to not being prepared. Do your homework, make plans and be ready. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, the next attack will be a multi faceted thing by Jihadi of many ilk’s. Once a major attack begins, others not even aware of it will then join in in a chain reaction. Every homegrown Jihadi, every sleeper cell biding it’s time will move to make it‘s mark in the great Jihad against the great Satin (us folks, us).

Things are coming to a head. Al Qaeda can’t keep waiting to move. It’s being nibbled away around the world and will have to attack soon to regain its momentum. There are more and more small events taking place at an accelerating rate.

Former CIA Director: Terrorist Strike Within U.S. Real Threat

Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey tells NewsMax in an exclusive interview that terrorists could strike the American homeland — possibly with a weapon of mass destruction — this summer or early fall.
He also warns that if Iran fails to comply with international efforts to stop its nuclear weapons program, the U.S. will have no other option than to bomb it.
"I think the threat of a serious attack in the next few months is very real," Woolsey said. A terrorist strike with a dirty bomb or with biological weapons was "a real possibility."
Woolsey's comments echo those of FBI Director Robert Mueller, who told NewsMax in May that al-Qaida's paramount goal is clear: to detonate a nuclear device that would kill hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Terrorists Plotting Now
While Woolsey doubted terrorists would be able to acquire a nuclear explosive device, he warned that terrorists were trying to acquire one, either on the black market from the former Soviet Union, or from Iran or North Korea.
The former CIA director said he favored "really tough sanctions" on Iran for another few months, but if that failed to bring Iran's nuclear weapons program to a halt, the United States had no other choice but to bomb Iran's nuclear sites.
He also blasted those in the State Department who believe we can convince the Iranians through negotiations to stop their nuclear programs. "I've never thought there's a chance in hell of that," he said.
Asked what three things we need to do to make America more safe, Woolsey said that the first and most important was not to tie the president's hands when it came to intelligence collection.
Efforts by Democrats to require court orders to intercept international communications amounted to "shooting ourselves in the foot," he added.
More Pressure on Iran
Next, he said the United States absolutely must step up pressure on Iran, by focusing on Iran's weak economic underbelly and the wellspring of popular discontent with the regime.
In the longer term, Woolsey said it was essentially that the U.S. beef up its military forces and to prepare Americans psychologically and politically for a long war with radical Islamic terrorists.
"I think this is a long war, and we need to treat it as such, and go on a full war-footing," he said.
Woolsey had plenty more to say on the topic of Iran, wrapping up the interview with a list of things needed to keep the United States safe.
