Two Gateshead men arrested for watching 9/11 Koran burning video
Once again the British government enforces Sharia law over it's non-Muslim citizens. Freedom of speech and freeedom of association are dead in Britain. Big Brother is finally revealed as an agent of Islam.

In a disturbing development, Northumbria Police in Gateshead last week arrested two men after they watched and shared a video on Facebook of a man burning the Koran in the US during the recent 9/11 commemoration at Ground Zero in New York.
The men were drinking in the Bugle pub, Leam Lane, Gateshead, when they were arrested after watching and sharing the videos.
Around 30 people staged a protest outside Gateshead police station on Wednesday evening, the 15th of September, following the arrests.
The group stood outside the doors to the police station with an England flag for about three hours watched by a contingent of uniformed officers.The protesters had gathered at around 8pm after the two men were arrested earlier in the day on 'suspicion of inciting racial hatred'.
The protest continued until around 11pm when the two arrested men were bailed pending further enquiries.
In a further development, the man who actually burned the Koran in the video on 9/11 in New York has been sacked from his job.
Derek Fenton, 39, of Bloomingdale, New Jersey, had worked for NJ Transit for 11 years as a conductor and train co-ordinator. One of his neighbours, Jacqui Marquez, said: "Good for him for burning the Koran. Everybody's entitled to their opinion. By firing him, they're sending a message that there's no freedom of speech. They're completely wrong for doing this."
Youtube have now removed all footage of Derek Fenton burning the Koran. Of course, if he had burnt the Stars and Stripes (or any other flag or religious book) the video would still be available. Double standards by Youtube, perhaps?

PA affirms death penalty for land sales to Israelis
While Israel continues to restrict Israeli citizens from building in the West Bank and Jerusalem, the PA makes it a capitol offense for "Palestinians" to sell land to Israelis.
The solution is for the Israeli government to find it's backbone and send all West Bank and Jerusalem Muslims to Gaza.

The Palestinian Authority on Sunday reaffirmed the death penalty for any Palestinian found guilty of selling land to Israelis.
The decision came in response to a ruling by a Palestinian court according to which such acts were only a “minor offense.”
PA Prosecutor-General Ahmed al-Mughni appealed against the ruling to a higher court, arguing that the sale of land to Israelis was a “major offense” punishable by death.
The appeal was accepted.
That verdict considering such offenses a major offense is aimed at reminding Palestinians of the PA law that prohibits selling land to Jews, Mughni said.
The land law, which was originally put in force by Jordan between 1948 and 1967, carries the death sentence.
The PA says the law is necessary to prevent the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.
In 1997, the PA announced that it would seek the death penalty for any Palestinian convicted of selling land to Jews or Israelis, in accordance with the Jordanian “Law for Preventing the Sale of Real Estate to the Enemy.”
According to the 1973 legislation, the sale of property to Jews or Israelis constitutes a crime against state security and well-being, punishable by death and the confiscation of the culprit’s possessions.
The PA later drafted its own law to replace the Jordanian statute. The law is called the “Property Law for Foreigners.”
It describes the sale of land to “occupiers” as an act of “national treason.” Although the PA has thus far refrained from executing those convicted of selling land to Jews, there have been many extrajudicial killings of Palestinian suspects over the past decades.

Terrorists are covertly using Islamic Shariah law as a non-violent way to destroy the United States while the government ignores the threat, according to a bipartisan group of highly accomplished military, terrorism and national security experts.
The veteran officials from the CIA, FBI, U.S. military as well as a former Justice Department prosecutor assert that Shariah law—the authoritarian doctrine that inspires Islamists and their jihadism—has created a threat similar to the Soviet communist ideology that aimed to defeat the west and tyrannize the world.

"This form of warfare includes multi-layered cultural subversion, the co-opting of senior leaders, influence operations and propaganda and other means of insinuating Shariah into Western societies," the report says.
As an example of a powerful organization trying to achieve that goal it cites the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group that advocates terrorism against Israel and the west and is known as the parent organization of Hamas and Al Qaeda. Just last month, in its fervent crusade to befriend Muslims, the White House hosted special workshops to provide radical Islamic groups associated with the Muslim Brotherhood direct access to U.S. government funding, assistance and resources.
Earlier in the year Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano covertly met with a group of extremist Arab, Muslim and Sikh organizations to discuss national security matters. Before that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton issued a special order allowing the reentry of two radical Islamic academics whose terrorist ties have for years banned them from the U.S.
The government should cease these sorts of outreach efforts to groups and individuals that want to destroy America from within, the security experts warn in their report. They also ask the Obama Administration to reconsider its stance that Islam is not linked to terrorism.

All the beef, chicken and lamb sold to fans at Wembley has secretly been prepared in accordance with sharia law, while Cheltenham College, which boasts of its ‘strong Christian ethos’, is one of several top public schools which also serves halal chicken to pupils without informing them.
Even Britain’s biggest hotel and restaurant group Whitbread, which owns the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre chains, among many others, has admitted that more than three-quarters of its poultry is halal.

Animal welfare campaigners have long called for a ban on the traditional Islamic way of preparing meat – which involves killing animals by drawing a knife across their throats, without stunning them first – saying it is cruel and causes unnecessary pain.
Sharia law expressly forbids knocking the animal out with a bolt gun, as is usual in British slaughterhouses. Instead, it must be sentient when its throat is cut, and the blood allowed to drip from the carcass while a religious phrase in praise of Allah is recited.
The extent of halal meat consumption, even in areas of Britain with a very small Muslim population, was revealed as the Pope, on his first visit to Britain, expressed fears that the country was not doing enough to preserve traditional Christian values and customs.
In a strongly worded speech to Parliament, he said: ‘There are those who argue that the public celebration of festivals such as Christmas should be discouraged, in the questionable belief that it might somehow offend those of other religions or none.’

A $10,000 reward fund for information leading to the identification of the person or persons involved in the recent Quran burning in East Lansing will be announced today, East Lansing City Manager Ted Staton said Tuesday.
Staton made the announcement at the East Lansing City Council’s Tuesday work session at East Lansing’s 54-B district court.
The money will be taken from the city’s general fund and the city will be accepting donations, he said. The amount of money given to any individual who comes forth with information will be determined based on the value of the information obtained, he said.
“We have used this before,” he said. “We think oftentimes people who commit acts like this tend to talk about it. We might find out how extensive these conversations have been.”
The East Lansing Police Department, or ELPD, has been investigating the Quran burning case since early Saturday when officers were notified of remnants of the Muslim holy book outside the Islamic Center of Greater Lansing on Harrison Road. The pages were strewn up and down Harrison Road, said Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR-MI.
According to the ELPD report, the incident occurred between 11 p.m. Friday and 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Investigation is ongoing and no suspects were known as of Monday.
The Islamic Center was informed of the reward fund’s creation Tuesday morning, Islamic Center spokesman Abdalmajid Katranji said. Support from city officials and the local community has been tremendous, he said.
“This is exactly what we know of the community of East Lansing,” Katranji said. “It’s a very welcoming community. It’s been a home to us for decades, and it will continue to be a home for us.”
It is believed by city officials and others involved in the situation that the perpetrator is not from the East Lansing area, said Thasin Sardar, a volunteer at the Islamic Center. The enthusiastic approach by the city and investigators hopefully will yield results in the search for the responsible party, he said.
“I was surprised at the rapidness with which they have issued (the reward fund),” Sardar said. “We are satisfied with the way the case is being pursued by the city of East Lansing and the FBI. They have taken it very seriously.”
The community will not find closure without the identification of the party responsible for the Quran burning, premedical freshman Abdelaziz Adawe said.
“The person that did this needs to be held responsible,” Adawe said. “This person needs to be caught to ensure the community’s safety.”
The city of East Lansing is an international community with diverse members, Staton said.
“We are proud to have a mosque, a synagogue and many other churches in our communities, and we want to protect them from any sort of actions of intimidation,” he said.

Just a few hours after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks – when many Americans were still in a state of shock at the carnage and destruction flashing across their TV screens – the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) sent out an e-mail to the media warning that potential “backlash” from the attacks could harm Muslims.
“Those who wear Islamic attire should consider staying out of public areas for the immediate future,” read CAIR’s email, which also requested additional police patrols near mosques and a heightened vigilance for suspicious packages, people or vehicles near mosques.
And anti-Islamic violence did increase after the Sept. 11 attacks, accounting for 27 percent of religious-based hate crimes – but even at this height, it was still overshadowed by anti-Jewish violence, which accounted for 56 percent of incidents the FBI classifies as hate crimes.
Since then, violence against Muslims has decreased sharply, even as warnings of “epidemics” of anti-Muslim hate-crimes and allegations that “Islamophobia” the “new anti-Semitism” have noticeably increased.
Media outlets like the Associated Press, the New York Times and ABC have all given Muslim activists a platform to promote this claim.
“I think we are deeply concerned because this is like a metastasized anti-Semitism,” Ground Zero mosque organizer Daisy Khan told Christiane Amanpour ABC’s This Week on the Aug. 22. “It's not even Islamophobia, it’s beyond Islamophobia. It's hate of Muslims.”
Other prominent Islamic leaders have echoed the idea that bigotry against Muslims is rising.
“You saw some anti-Muslim views after 9/11, but they were relegated to the fringes of society where they should be," Ibrahim Hooper, communications director for CAIR, told the Christian Science Monitor on Sept. 10. "Now anti-Muslim sentiment has really been mainstreamed.”
“The manufactured controversy surrounding the proposed Islamic cultural center near ground zero in New York has resulted in an increase in hate crimes targeting Muslim institutions nationwide,” said CAIR-Ohio Director Jennifer Nimer.
Since 2001, hate crimes against Muslims have decreased significantly, according to FBI statistics. After 2002, hate crimes against Muslims have not risen above 13 percent of all anti-religious crimes, and the most recent data from 2008 calculates them at 7.8 percent.
Despite this evidence to the contrary, each year has brought claims by prominent Muslim leaders that anti-Islamic hate crimes are actually growing – with the allegations usually coming right after a terrorist attack or at a time when Muslim leaders are lobbying on political issues.
In 2007, after a group of radical Islamists were caught plotting to attack Fort Dix military base, New Jersey newspaper The Star Ledger reported that “since news broke of an alleged plot to attack soldiers at Fort Dix, Muslim activists and community leaders have been hyper-vigilant for signs of an anti-Muslim backlash.”
Radio host Bill Keller was also adding to anti-Muslim sentiment in 2007, claimed Muslim leaders. "It is our belief that anti-Islamic rhetoric like that used in 'Live Prayer with Bill Keller' is exactly the type of language that is likely to incite hate crimes against the American Muslim community," said a CAIR spokesperson on FOX’s Hannity and Colmes on August 27, 2007.
But the percentage of anti-Muslim hate crimes stood at 8.7 in 2007, down nearly 20 percentage points from 2001. By 2008, it had fallen to 7.8 percent.

Justice Breyer Suggests That Burning a Quran Could be Like Shouting 'Fire' in a Crowded Theatre
File this under Enemy Within, at the highest levels.
While the “core values remain,” Breyer continued, “how they apply can change” over time, he suggested.
Well, here's the problem. Breyer somehow thinks that the Constitution can change over time. Thinking like this at the Supreme Court is the tip of the wedge that will allow individual interpretation of the Constitution depending on a Justices personal preferences. Plainly, this man feels that he can just "change" the Constitution to suit his perspective at any given time.
Last I remember, only the Legislature with the approval of the People can revise the Constitution, not the Judiciary.
The sooner this man is replaced, the better.

In 1935 Sinclair Lewis wrote It Can’t Happen Here, a novel about the rise of tyranny in America, whose message was that it indeed can happen here. Just to remind us that in fact it “can happen here”, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer used the occasion of his appearance on noted legal forum, Good Morning America, to suggest that there may not be any First Amendment protection for burning the Koran.
“Holmes said it doesn’t mean you can shout ‘fire’ in a crowded theater,” Breyer told me. “Well, what is it? Why? Because people will be trampled to death. And what is the crowded theater today? What is the being trampled to death?”
Breyer’s statement was every bit as flippant and ignorant of the Constitution and even previous Supreme Court decisions as you would expect from a Clinton appointee.
To begin with, Breyer misstated what Holmes had said and what he had meant. In Schenk vs United States, Holmes wrote, “The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man falsely shouting fire in a theater and causing a panic.” The key word here is “falsely”. Shouting “fire” in a crowded theater when there really is a fire, is a warning. Shouting it when there is no fire, is a malicious attempt to start a panic. Holmes used the metaphor to argue that freedom of speech was contextual, so that some speech which presented a clear and present danger in a time of war could be banned. An Anti-War argument during peacetime might be legal, but illegal in wartime.

At the urging of the FBI, Molly Norris, the Seattle-based illustrator and cartoonist whose satirical drawing marking "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" resulted in death threats, global protests and impassioned debate about religion and censorship, has been forced to change her name and abandon her former life as a result of her controversial cartoon.
The news that Morris had, out of concerns for her safety, decided to go into hiding was first reported in the Seattle Weekly today, a paper where Norris' cartoons had regularly appeared:

When a report challenging our national security policy of ignoring Islamic supremacism through Islamic law was released during a Capitol Hill press conference on Wednesday (disclosure: I was one of the co-authors of the report, titled: “Shariah: The Threat to America”), among the chief critics were representatives from the Congressional Muslim Staffers Association (CMSA).
This group, which has been briefing both Democrat and Republican congressional leadership in recent months, claiming that there is nothing inherently violent in Islamic law, has a very poor history of embracing Islamic radicals — even al-Qaeda terrorists.
Immediately after 9/11, the CMSA began holding Friday afternoon prayer services on Capitol Hill. Who did they choose to lead them in their prayers? Al-Qaeda sheikh Anwar al-Awlaki, who is currently subject to a kill or capture order issued by President Obama. In fact, video of al-Awlaki preaching to the CMSA was included in the 2002 documentary, Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet. (That video clip is available to view via the Investigative Project on Terrorism.)
Identified in that clip listening to the al-Qaeda cleric: Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR); then-CAIR communications specialist Randall “Ismail” Royer, who is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence on terrorism charges; and CMSA founder and former president Jameel Alim Johnson.
Jameel Johnson is no stranger to PJM readers. In December 2007, I reported exclusively here on an Islamic conference on Capitol Hill that had been scheduled by Johnson, as chief of staff from Congressman Gregory Meeks. The conference was cancelled at the last minute by the House of Representatives sergeant-at-arms when it was discovered that it was to feature a long list of Islamic radicals, some of whom were known to be on the terror watch list.

September 15, 2010: One of the biggest problems with Islamic terrorism is that it is based on ancient, and widespread, hostility between factions in the Islamic world. The Islamic world has no central religious authority, and a long tradition of being hypersensitive and violent to those who appear to give offense. In Iraq and Afghanistan, most of the Moslems casualties were caused by other Moslems. While Islamic conservatives and radicals are usually doing the attacking, these killers represent many different strains of Islam. Even if the U.S. and NATO troops were to withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan, the killing would go on, probably at a higher intensity. This is the basis for the great fear of Islamic nations getting nuclear weapons. Moslems, as they have demonstrated over the last few decades, are more prone to killing lots of their real or imagined enemies. Thus it is a more serious matter for Pakistan to have nuclear weapons, than India. Per capita, India has lost fewer people to terrorist violence than the Moslem world. Moreover, the Moslem scientists who developed the Pakistani bomb, then went on to peddle it to other Moslem, and non-Moslem dictatorships. Moreover, many radicalized Moslems consider it their religious duty to attack and kill infidels (non-Moslems.)
This Moslem propensity for violence has a long history, and the hatred and killing is still with us. In the last few years, Moslems have regularly attacked Buddhists in Thailand, Jews everywhere, Baha'is in Iran and Christians in Egypt, Iraq, the Philippines, Pakistan, Malaysia and elsewhere. This is not a sudden and unexpected outburst of Moslem violence against non-Moslems. It is normal, and at the root of Islamic terrorism. While this violent behavior represents only a small number of Moslems, it is a large minority (from a few percent of a population, to over half, according to opinion polls). Moreover, the majority of Moslems has not been willing, or able, to confront and suppress the Islamic radicals that not only spread death and destruction, but also besmirch all Moslems. This reveals a fundamental problem in the Islamic world, the belief that combining righteousness with murderous tactics, is often the road to power and spiritual salvation. Throughout history, when these tactics were applied to non-Moslems, they often failed. The non-Moslems were unfazed by the religious angle, and, especially in the last five hundred years, were better able to defeat Islamic violence with even greater violence. Thus, until quite recently, the Moslems fought among themselves, and left the infidels (non-Moslems) out. But after World War II, that began to change.
During the Lebanese civil war of 1975-1990, Christian and Moslem Arabs fought bitterly over political, cultural and, ultimately, religious differences. The capital, Beirut, was divided into Christian and Moslem sections by the Green Line. The name came from the fact that in this rubble filled no man's land, only grass and weeds survived. And that the line on a ceasefire map was drawn in green. There have been a lot more Green Lines since then. Few realized it at the time, but this war was but the first of many between Christians and Moslems in the 20th and 21st centuries.

While public attention was diverted by whether or not Florida pastor Terry Jones and Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf had reached a compromise, a report critical to our national security went virtually unnoticed.
Jones, under some pressure from most of the civilized world, offered to withdraw his threat to immolate a stack of Qurans, in exchange, he said, for Rauf's relocation of Park51, the planned mosque complex he proposes to tower over the World Trade Center site. Understandably, the press preferred to cover the spectacle between Jones and Rauf, especially as it played out on live television like a bizarre parody of "Let's Make a Deal."
Culture wars, after all, make more scintillating copy than the earnest prose of yet another advisory report. But were it not for the distraction caused by the Jones-Rauf media circus, we might instead have focused our attention on "Assessing the Terrorist Threat," a timely evaluation conducted for the ninth anniversary of 9/11. Well gee, another in a long line of Muslim desecrations Christian graveyards. However this is small potatoes compared to the Cordoba House Mosque proposed at Ground Zero. But the Cordoba House and this mosque have the exact same intention: A symbol of Islamic supremacy over non-Muslims.

GraveA cleric of hard-line Muslims has constructed a mosque on a Christian cemetery in Pakistan.
Muslims in Sargodha, Pakistan, were led by a hard-line cleric to construct the mosque at that particular location. It was originally believed the workers were building an addition to the already existing mosque, but the group has been desecrating Christians' graves. According to the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA), the government issued an order to halt construction, but building resumed in spite of that.
Jonathan Racho of International Christian Concern (ICC) does not deem this news surprising.
Pakistan"We know that the Islamic faith is very much aggressive, and Islam expanded over a large part of the world through the use of jihad and the use of force, and they have been using this in many countries, including Pakistan," he points out.
He adds that Muslims use force to expel or otherwise subdue Christians, which can be carried out by placing a mosque on a Christian cemetery. But even if the Christians were able to go to court and prove wrongdoing, Racho explains that "in this particular case, according to Pakistani laws, no religious place could be demolished."
So the mosque is there to stay. In addition to this desecration, Muslims have threatened to take action if the Christians challenge them. Meanwhile, Pakistan recently suffered extensive flooding, and ICC has learned of cases where Christians were refused aid unless they agreed to convert to Islam.

This rather shocking comment made at a Ramallah press conference last week by one of the supposedly more "moderate" members of the Palestinian leadership produced headlines throughout both the Arab world and Israel.
Amazingly it received nary a mention in the major American media!
As Mr. Shaath well knows, Israel was established and internationally recognized as a Jewish state more than 60 years ago. He also knows that Arab refusal to recognize that fact is at the very core of the Mideast conflict. So how does Shaath expect to win Israeli confidence and concessions for peace if Palestinians still refuse to accept Israel's Jewishness?
And why is Mr. Shaath so worried about Israel's Arabs, that 20 percent of Israel's population of 8 million whose forebears were smart enough not to run away during the 1947-48 Arab-launched war? Surely he knows that Israeli Arabs -- Christian, Druze and Muslim -- are full fledged citizens of the Jewish state. They occasionally face problems, but they always vote, elect their own members of parliament, work in the Israeli government, in Israeli industry, agriculture and commerce, are doctors and nurses in Israeli hospitals, teachers and professors in Israeli schools and universities, serve in the Israeli army if they wish, share in a democratic system unmatched in the Middle East and enjoy a standard of living that is the highest of most Arabs anywhere!
Mr. Shaath also fails to explain that when he speaks of "a Right of Return" he's not referring merely to survivors from 1948's original 700,000 or so Palestinian refugees. He is talking about all their descendants -- four (sometimes five) generations of them -- roughly 4 million souls by Arab count! Does the Palestinian leadership really expect Israel to commit demographic suicide as part of a "peace deal"?

Muslim disloyalty in the military is becoming commonplace, but how prevalent is it in society — not to mention in the U.S. government?

Islamist enmity for infidels, regularly manifested in the jihad, is by now moderately well known. Lesser known, however, but of equal concern, is the mandate for Muslims to be loyal to fellow Muslims and Islam — a loyalty that all too often translates into disloyalty to all things non-Muslim, including the American people and their government.
This dichotomy of loyalty to Muslims and enmity for infidels — which, incidentally, corresponds well with Islamic law’s division of the world into the abode of war (deserving of enmity) and the abode of Islam (deserving of loyalty) — is founded on a Muslim doctrine called wala’ wa bara’ (best translated as “loyalty and enmity”). I first encountered this doctrine while translating various Arabic documents for The Al Qaeda Reader. In fact, the longest and arguably most revealing document I included in that volume is titled “Loyalty and Enmity” (pgs.63-115), compiled by Aymen Zawahiri, al-Qaeda’s number two.
I say “compiled” because most of the words are direct quotes from the Koran, the Muslim prophet Muhammad, and Islam’s jurists (i.e., this doctrine is not an “al-Qaeda” phenomenon but rather permeates Islam’s worldview). Those interested are urged to read the whole treatise. For our purposes, however, a few key scriptures must suffice: Koran 5:51 warns Muslims against “taking the Jews and Christians as friends and allies … whoever among you takes them for friends and allies, he is surely one of them,” i.e., he becomes an infidel. According to authoritative Muslim exegete, al-Tabari, Koran 5:51 means that the Muslim who “allies with them [non-Muslims] and enables them against the believers, that same one is a member of their faith and community.” Similar scriptures include Koran 3:28, 4:89, 4:144, 5:54, 6:40, 9:23, and 58:22; the latter simply states that true Muslims do not befriend non-Muslims — “even if they be their fathers, sons, brothers, or kin.”

Christian church and school set on fire in Punjab because of the ‘Burn-the-Qur‘an’ proposal
The headline here blames the burning of a Christian church and school in Punjab on the almost burning of a Koran by the Rev Terry Jones in Florida. Actually, the blame for the burnings lies entirely with the barbaric and violent "religion" of Islam. Once again, Muslims have acted in a frenzied mob to burn buildings and attack non-Muslims simply because they ARE non-Muslims. Intolerance of non-Muslims is one of its founding premises.
Arson and terror attacks cannot be justified by the burning of a book. These attacks on Christians are just more of 1400 years of attacks on non-Muslims. Violence and intimidation are primary tools of Islam to propagate its spread.

Protests against insulting the Qur’an continue in India. In predominantly Muslim areas, a mob burns a church and a school. At least 11 people, including demonstrators and a police agent, are killed. The authorities impose a curfew. Christians condemn the violence.
New Delhi (AsiaNews) – Muslim extremists set fire to a Church and to a Christian school in Punjab in reaction to the proposed Qur‘an burning by Rev Terry Jones, a US clergyman, in order to commemorate 9/1, an action he later abandoned but still caused protests among Muslims and anti-Christian violence. In India, the latter have taken a distinctly political and separatist tone. The resulting incidents with police left 11 people dead.
The Christian Society Mission School was set on fire this morning in Tangmarg, near Gulmarg. Rumours had already spread that it might be targeted but the authorities ignored them. When fire fighters tried to the wood-made church, they were stopped by a mob. The entire building burnt to the ground but students were not hurt.
However, this was not the only act of violence. Demonstrators also stormed a government building and clashed with police. Seven people were killed, including a police officer. Four more people died in earlier protests.
“The [church] fire was fuelled by both rumours of an alleged burning of the Qur‘an and the political situation” in the state, Mgr Peter Celestine, bishop of Jammu-Srinagar, told AsiaNews. “Witnesses said that hundreds of people were on streets yesterday night.” From there, they “barged into the school building and set it ablaze. Curfew has been imposed.”
Anti-government Islamic protests are commonplace in the state. At least 70 demonstrators have been killed by police in the past three months. The ‘Burn-the-Qur‘an’ issue was just a pretext to vent anti-government feelings.
“The proposal to burn the Qur‘an’, even though it was abandoned, created a very tense situation. Fear and anxiety are widespread. Christians constitute only 0.0014 per cent of the population. So far, we have had cordial relations with our Muslim brothers and the authorities, but this initiative is cause for concern,” the bishop said.
In Punjab last night, an angry crowd burnt a church and various cars parked in Loha Bazar in the city of Malerkotla, Sangrur District, a predominantly Muslim area, because of Rev Jones’ proposal. The authorities have imposed a curfew until 6 pm fearing more violence.

Tens of thousands descended upon Ground Zero today to remember those we lost nine years ago, and to save the American principles of freedom that the sharia tramples.
Crickets are chirping in taqiya media newsrooms nationwide (although they were all there). There has been no coverage.
We organized a rally of remembrance that dwarfed the opposition. If the America haters had 4,000, we had ten times more. The media is playing the dueling rallies; it was no such thing.
Free people came from all over the country and all over the world to stand in solidarity with the 911 families and to declare our iron determination that no victory mosque will be built on their graves. The crowd was young and old, black and white ........ politics of all stripes. The crowd was beautiful. The crowd was proud and good and decent America. All the speakers were excellent. Rousing.
But the highlights included Geert Wilders, who was greeted as the great hero that he is, and spoke about how a sharia mosque at Ground Zero would be the death New York's proud tradition of Dutch tolerance.
Ambassador John Bolton spoke bluntly and unequivocally via video link about the affront to American values that this mosque would constitute.
Other powerful voices included Joseph Nasralla, who was the unwilling media darling o
f our June 6th rally, when a misunderstanding was blown out of proportion by the mainstream media as a racist incident. Joseph Nasralla was the Arab who was supposedly in a confrontation at that rally. At this rally we were proud to feature him, and he was so passionate and rousing in his love for America and fierce denunciation of the thousand-year-old Islamic oppression of the Coptic Christians in Egypt that the crowd went wild as Joseph led them in cheers of Gd Bless America!
But his warning was clear. The Ground Zero mosque would be the beginning of the end and Egypt shows where the presence of Islam leads in a free nation.
Steve Malzberg and Mike Gallagher were greeted by huge cheers. It was an historic day in American history. Here is the first of El Marco's peerless coverage. Dear friends,
May I ask you to be silent for ten seconds? Just be silent and listen. Ten seconds. And listen…
What we hear are the sounds of life in the greatest city on earth. No place in the world, no place in human history, is as richly varied and vibrant and dynamic as New York City.
You hear the cars, you hear the people, you hear them rushing to their various destinations, you hear the sounds of business and of pleasure, you hear the cheers, you hear the cries, the buzzing sounds of human activity. And that is how it should be. Always.
Now close your eyes – I know it’s a beautiful day, but close your eyes. I have been told that this day nine years ago was just such a beautiful day -- and remember, or try to remember, or try to imagine the sounds which were heard here on this spot under this same blue sky exactly nine years ago.
The sound of shock, the sound of destruction, the sound of panic, the sound of pain, the sound of terror.
Did New York deserve this? Did America deserve this? Did the West deserve this?
What, my friends, would you say to people who argue that New York, that America, that the West had itself to blame for those horrible sounds? There are people in this city who argue this. And they are angry because we are gathered here today to commemorate, to make a stand, to draw the line.
My friends, I have come from the other side of the Atlantic to share your grief for those who died here nine years ago.
I have not forgotten how I felt that day.
The scenes are imprinted on my soul, as they are on yours.
But our hearts were not broken in the same way as the hearts of the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives here. Many relatives of the victims are here in our midst today. I wish to take this opportunity to express my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to them and to all of the people of New York and America.
Humbly, I stand here before you as a Dutchman and a European.
I, too, however, cannot forget.
How can anyone forget?

Worley’s response is our response: No, we will NEVER forget.
We are here today because we have not forgotten all the loved ones that were lost and those left to carry on. And neither has the world.
When the forces of Jihad attacked New York, they attacked the world.
Among those lost were people from 55 nations, people of every religion and every persuasion. No place on earth had a more multi-ethnic, multi-racial, and multi-lingual workforce than New York’s proud towers.
That is exactly why they were targeted. They constituted an insult to those who hold that there can be no peaceful cooperation among people and nations without submission to Sharia; to those who wish to impose the legal system of Islam on the rest of us.
But New York and Sharia are incompatible. New York stands for freedom, openness and tolerance.
New York’s Mayor recently said that New York is “rooted in Dutch tolerance.” Those are true words. New York is not intolerant. How can it be? New York is open to the world.
Suppose New York were intolerant. Suppose it only allowed people of one persuasion within its walls.
Then it would be like Mecca, a city without freedom.
Whatever your religion, persuasion or gender is, in New York you will find a home. In Mecca, if your religion isn’t Islam, you are not welcome.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf claims the right to build a mosque, a house of Sharia here – on this hallowed ground.
But, friends, I have not forgotten and neither have you. That is why we are here today. To draw the line. Here, on this sacred spot. We are here in the spirit of America’s founding fathers. We are here in the spirit of freedom. We are here in the spirit of Abraham Lincoln, the President who freed the slaves.
President Lincoln said: “Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves.”
These words are the key to our survival. The tolerance that is crucial to our freedom requires a line of defense.
Mayor Bloomberg uses tolerance as an argument to allow Imam Rauf and his sponsors to build their so-called Cordoba Mosque.
Mayor Bloomberg forgets, however, that openness cannot be open-ended. A tolerant society is not a suicidal society.
It must defend itself against the powers of darkness, the force of hatred and the blight of ignorance. It cannot tolerate the intolerant – and survive.
This means that we must not give a free hand to those who want to subjugate us.
An overwhelming majority of Americans is opposed to building this mosque. So is an overwhelming majority everywhere in the non-Islamic world.
Because we all realize what is at stake here. We know what this so-called Cordoba mosque really means.
Imam Rauf maintains that American secular law and Sharia law are based on the same principles. He refuses to condemn terrorists because he says terrorism is “a very complex question”.
He says America is “an accessory to the crime that happened on 9/11.” “In fact,” he literally said, “in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA.”
He also says that “terrorism will only end when the West acknowledges the harm it has done to Muslims.”
That is why this man should not play the game he has in mind here in Manhattan. His “Blame the West, Blame America”-message is an insult. Americans – and by extension, all of us whose civilization was also attacked on 9/11/2001 – are not to blame for what happened here nine years ago today.
Osama bin Laden is not made in the USA. The West never “harmed” Islam before it harmed us.
Most Americans do not want this so-called Cordoba Mosque to be built here. They understand that it is both a provocation and a humiliation. They understand the triumphant narrative of a mosque named after the Great Mosque of Cordoba which was constructed where a Christian cathedral stood before the land was conquered by Islam.
An overwhelming majority of Americans is opposed to building an Islamic cultural center close to Ground Zero. There is no lack of mosques in New York. There are dozens of buildings in which Muslims can pray. It isn’t about a lack of space for prayers. It’s about the symbolic meaning.
We who have come to speak today, object to this mosque project because its promoter and his wealthy sponsors have never suggested building a center to promote tolerance and interfaith understanding where it is really needed: In Mecca – a town where non-Muslims are not even allowed to enter, let alone build churches, synagogues, temples or community centers.
Ordinary Americans object to the mosque project because currently no fewer than ten major multi-million dollar mosque projects are being planned in the United States as well as dozens in Europe, while not a single church is allowed in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while Jews are not even allowed to move their lips in prayer on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, while the oldest Christians in the world, the Copts, are not free to renovate their churches, let alone to build one in Egypt.
My friends, that is why we are here today. What happens in New York must be seen in the perspective of the world. The events nine years ago made an enormous impact everywhere. Most people shared your pain, but, unfortunately, some did not.
Nine years ago, when the news of the terrible atrocity in New York reached Europe, Muslim youths danced in the streets. In a poll, two thirds of the Muslim immigrants in the Netherlands expressed partial or full understanding for the 9/11 terrorists.
If a mosque were built here on Ground Zero such people would feel triumphant.
But we, we will not betray those who died on 9/11.
For their sakes we cannot tolerate a mosque on or near Ground Zero.
For their sakes loud and clear we say: No mosque here!
For their sakes, we must draw the line.
So that New York, rooted in Dutch tolerance, will never become New Mecca.
But, let us also express our gratitude for the heroes of 9/11, those who went down in that Pennsylvania field, those who were standing freedom’s watch at the Pentagon, and those who were here in New York nine years ago to risk and lose their lives for the victims.
Friends, in honor of these victims, these heroes and their families, I believe that the words of Ronald Reagan, spoken in Normandy on the 40th anniversary of D-Day, resonate with new purpose on this hallowed spot. President Reagan said: “We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free.”
And, we, too, will always remember the victims of 9/11 and their loved ones who were left behind;
We, too, will always be proud of the heroes;
We will always defend liberty, democracy and human dignity;
In the name of freedom: No mosque here!

Karachi, Sept 11 (ANI): An incident involving forced religious conversion of a 13-year-old Hindu girl belonging to a Dalit community has surfaced in Lyari Town of Pakistan.
The girl- Poonam- was kidnapped from the neighbourhood in Lyari Town on Wednesday, and the neighbours informed her family of her presence at a Madrassa in the town, the Daily Times quoted the girl’s uncle, Bhanwroo, as saying.
He said that when the family went to the Madrassa, they found out that “she was very scared and under the influence of maulvis. She told us they will not let her go, so she will stay with them as a Muslim.”
The family tried to lodge an FIR of kidnapping at Chakiwara Police Station, but the policemen refused to register the case.
Commenting on the issue, SP Lyari, Khadim Hussain Rind, said that lodging an FIR would not make any difference, as it would be cancelled during proceedings of the court. (ANI)

A Tectonic shift is in motion: How fitting that its focal point is Ground Zero, the inevitable fault line between Islam and the West.
Only the blink of an eye ago, uttering the unpleasant truth that in terms of doctrine there is no such thing as "moderate Islam" resulted in one's banishment from what our opinion elites like to call the "mainstream," by which they mean the narrow-minded, viciously defended circle of their own pieties and fictions.
You could say it, but your skin had better have an extra coat or two of thick: You were in for a fusillade of rage, the likes of which our candor-phobic elites would never dream of unleashing at our Islamist enemies -- no matter how clearly those enemies announced their intention to destroy us.
The fusillade still comes, but now its blows only glance. The elites and their mainstream have been exposed as frauds: Being on the wrong side of enough 70-30 issues will do that to you.
It should never have gotten this far. Sponsors of the Ground Zero mosque neither own the property in question nor possess the means to build and operate the palatial Islamic center they envision. The more light that shines on their record of murky real-estate dealings and the dubious circumstances of their limited stake in the Ground Zero property, the more questions arise.

Slavery and Islam

Victim ‘trafficked in 1st modern case’

A DOCTOR has become the first person in the UK to be charged with modern-day slavery.
Saeeda Khan, 68, is accused of smuggling a Tanzanian woman into the country and making her work for nothing at her £500,000 home.
The 50-year-old victim was allegedly forced to sleep on a mattress on the medic's kitchen FLOOR.
Khan and her late husband Zahid, also a doctor, at first paid the suspected slave just £10 a month - but the payments later stopped, police said.
Scotland Yard was tipped off to the woman's situation by an anti-slavery charity. Detectives from the Human Exploitation and Organised Crime Command, known as SCD9, swooped earlier this year at Khan's home in Harrow, North West London.
She will appear before City of Westminster Magistrates next Monday, charged with trafficking people for exploitation. Trading in slaves was made a criminal offence in the 19th century.
Human rights groups believe more than 1,000 people - including maids, fruit pickers and factory workers - are forced to work as slaves in the UK.

Muslim landlord who owns the debt now wants repayment; to achieve his goal, he threatened and insulted the family, calling them “lowlife” who “will always be our slave” because “We Muslims are superior to any other religion.” Initially, police refused to intervene and file a complaint about the abduction.
Kasur (AsiaNews) – A group of Muslims abducted a Christian woman, mother of two, because her husband failed to repay a loan he had contracted because of his poverty. The Muslim creditor threatened to seize his wife and children and use them as slaves if the debt was not paid in time. Two days ago, he, his children and other family members organised a sit-in (pictured) demanding that police intervene, but so far, it has failed to lift one finger to free the woman. The incident occurred in Fatehpuh Kasur (Kasur District), about 100 kilometres from Punjab’s capital Lahore.
The town is home to Ejaz Masih, his wife Sana, their two children and his parents. He works as labourer in the fields, whilst his wife works as a maid. Both are working hard to give their children an education.
Last July, Muhammad Nawaz Randhawa sold his fields to Chaudhry Ilyas Tiwana, who inherited all the labourers as well.
Earlier, Ejaz Masih had asked Randhawa for a loan to pay for his father’s medical treatment. After Randhawa told Tiwana about the loan, the latter summer Ejaz on 15 August to tell him that he had two weeks to repay it, “otherwise you will work my fields for the rest of your life, together with your family”. What is more, “We’ll come and take your wife and children to work for us as slaves. You have no choice [but pay]. Do dare not tell anyone; or else, you’ll be responsible for the consequences,” he added. “You are lowlife and will always be our slave. We Muslims are superior to any other religion.”
After he was thrown out of the landlord’s home, Ejaz went home where he told his wife and parents about the incident. “My wife said we should contact police and the authorities because we could not let anyone take our children to be their slaves,” Ejaz told AsiaNews.
“I told her that those people were very influential and that they would kill us if we contacted police. My parents told me to send my children to the house of an uncle, for protection, which we did.”
“Last Friday,” Ejaz went on to say, “around 5 am, seven to eight people with weapons came to take away my wife. They threatened us with their weapons. I tried to stop them, but they threw me to the ground and beat my father.”
When his mother called for help, neighbours came out but no one tried to stop the kidnappers. His brother, Javed, contacted police, but they refused to register the complaint.
On Monday, Ejaz, his parents, children and brother protested in front of the Fatehpuh Kasur Press Club, demanding justice and his wife’s release.
Despite many attempts and requests, Tiwana was unavailable to make any comment about the incident.
Following the protest, Senior House Officer Malik Babar said, “We are aware of the matter and we will arrest the culprits.”
However, the district coordination officer said he had no information about any such incident, but “I will instruct police to take the necessary action in this regard.”
It didn't take long for the Cordoba Initiative Mosque (AKA Park 51) developers to show their true colors. As soon as there is opposition to anything Muslims want to do, the response is always threats of violence, often followed by acts of violence. Until the West hardens up throws these threats back into the face of Islam, there will be no end of demands and loss of freedom.

Imam Handling of Islamic center plan a matter of national security

The religious leader behind plans to build an Islamic center and mosque a few blocks from New York's ground zero said Wednesday night that America's national security depends on how it handles the controversy.
"If we move from that location, the story will be the radicals have taken over the discourse," Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf told CNN's Soledad O'Brien on "Larry King Live."
"The headlines in the Muslim world will be that Islam is under attack."
But some critics decried his assessment.
"The whole national security thing: that's a veiled threat," Andy Sullivan, a union construction worker who wants all New York construction workers to boycott the proposed Islamic center, said on CNN's "AC 360" Wednesday night. "He's saying 'you make me move' and, guess what, the whole radical Muslim world is coming after us."
"This is a turf war," Sullivan said.
The imam, who repeatedly said his mission was to promote peace and build a bridge among faiths, said he was also speaking about "radicals" on both sides of the debate on the Islamic center. "Our national security now hinges on how we negotiate this, how we speak about it."

Moving the project to another location would strengthen Islamist radicals' ability to recruit followers and will likely increase violence against Americans, the imam said.
But Rosaleen Tallon, whose firefighter brother died on 9/11, finds that notion ironic.
"On 9/11, it didn't take a mosque for extremists to come and attack the World Trade Center and kill my brother," Tallon said on "AC 360." "What I'm finding here to be very disturbing is that now ... this mosque has to go up or there will be retribution."

At the risk of provoking the ever-volatile Religion of Perpetual Outrage, let us count the little-noticed and forgotten ways.
Just a few months ago in Kashmir, faithful Muslims rioted over what they thought was a mosque depicted on underwear sold by street vendors. The mob shut down businesses and clashed with police over the blasphemous skivvies. But it turned out there was no need for Allah’s avengers to get their holy knickers in a bunch. The alleged mosque was actually a building resembling London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral. A Kashmiri law enforcement official later concluded the protests were “premeditated and organized to vitiate the atmosphere.”

NEW YORK — The imam behind a proposed Islamic community center and mosque near ground zero cautioned Wednesday that moving the facility could cause a violent backlash from Muslim extremists and endanger national security.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf told CNN that the discourse surrounding the center has become so politicized that moving it could strengthen the ability of extremists abroad to recruit and wage attacks against Americans, including troops fighting in the Middle East.
"The headlines in the Muslim world will be that Islam is under attack," he said, but he added that he was open to the idea of moving the planned location of the center, currently two blocks north of the World Trade Center site.
"But if you don't do this right, anger will explode in the Muslim world," he later said, predicting that the reaction could be more furious than the eruption of violence following the 2005 publication of Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
Opponents say the center, which would include a Sept. 11 memorial and a Muslim prayer space, should be moved farther away from where Islamic extremists destroyed the World Trade Center and killed nearly 2,800 people. Supporters say religious freedom should be protected.
Rauf, 61, has largely been absent since the debate over the center erupted earlier this year. He has been traveling abroad, including taking a State Department-funded 15-day trip to the Middle East to promote religious tolerance.
In the interview with CNN's Soledad O'Brien, his first since returning to the U.S. on Sunday, Rauf responded to a number of questions that have been raised about the project.
He said money to develop the center would be raised domestically for the most part.
"And we'll be very transparent on how we raise money," he said, adding that no funds would be accepted from sources linked to extremists.
Rauf said that, in retrospect, he might have chosen a different location for what he described as a multifaith community center.
"If I knew this would happen, if it would cause this kind of pain, I wouldn't have done it," he said.

Christian Copts Living As Slaves to Muslims in Egyptian Village
Yeah, another progressive Muslim majority country showing true Islamic tolerance to it's minorities. What is it with Muslims and slavery? If they can't have out and out slaves, they'll have economic slaves or use coercion and intimidation to have virtual slaves.
This is what Islam will bring to the West if we allow them to.
To those who still believe that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance, consider living conditions of minorities in Muslim majority countries. Consider the thousands of honor killings of women and girls every year. Consider 9-11.

Christian Copts Living As Slaves to Muslims in Egyptian Village

(AINA) -- Since the Christmas Eve Massacre on January 6,2010, when six Copts were killed and nine seriously injured by Muslims in a drive-by shooting outside a church in Nag Hammadi (AINA 1-7-2010), the Coptic Patriarchate in Cairo has become a Mecca for oppressed Copts from all over Egypt.
Nearly every Wednesday, when Coptic Pope Shenouda III gives his weekly sermon, Copts go to complain to the Pope and make known their grievances to other Copts who never come to hear about those cases due to media blackout. They hope to meet with human rights activists attending the sermon without fear of getting arrested by State Security for congregating under the prevailing emergency laws.
Coptic human rights activist Dr. Fawzy Hermina has called the large courtyard of the Patriarchate the "Coptic Hyde Park."
Last week a group of nearly 50 Coptic men from the village of Azeem in Samalout, Minya province, came to expose "slavery-related" practices against Copts by certain radical Muslim families in their village. They called on human rights organizations for support. They met with activists from Coptic NGOs and appeared on US-based Coptic human rights channel Hope-Sat, which promised support through their lawyers in Egypt.
Bassem Shehata, 25, an IT graduate who attended the rally at the Patriarchate, said in an aired interview with Coptic activist Wagih Yacoub "We live in utter slavery. If Copts, some of whom are landowners, disobey orders of the big Muslim families, they are flogged." Bassem said that last year his 14-year-old brother Shenouda was tied by members of a Muslim family to a pole, beaten and tortured in front of his father just because the father did not lend them his tractor. "Each time my father begged for mercy for his child, he was also beaten." He said despite the family feeling "broken inside" his father refused to report the incident, fearing reprisals from the Muslim family.
Bassem said that young Christians work without pay on Muslim land. "I had to go because I was afraid they would harm my father."

Nigeria prison attack frees over 700 inmates
Islam is on the march in Nigeria, and it's looking like the government can't control it. Islam is spreading South from the Horn of Africa in the traditional Muslim way: through violence and murder.

Nigeria prison attack frees over 700 inmates

Suspected members of an Islamist sect have raided a prison in northern Nigeria, freeing 732 inmates, including members of the extremist group. The majority of the facility's 762 prisoners escaped, with 31 later re-arrested.
Four people were reportedly killed in Tuesday's attack on Bauchi state prison, including a soldier, a police officer and two residents.
Prison guard Salisu Mohammed said large numbers of heavily armed Boko Haram sect members raided the facility, in which all 150 sect inmates were freed.
But Police Commissioner Danlami Yar'Adua said authorities re-arrested 20 inmates as well as 11 suspected Boko Haram members, leaving 701 inmates still at large.
Calm returned to the area after an hour of heavy fighting, with police and the military saying they have since locked down the area.
Residents said they were terrified during the attack, and feared security forces would mistake them for members of Boko Haram, also known as the Nigerian Taliban.
The attack came during the last days of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, and ahead of January's presidential elections.
Boko Haram, which means "Western education is sin" in local Hausa dialect, had fought for the creation of an Islamic state in Nigeria, which is roughly divided in half between Muslims and Christians.
The vast majority of Muslims in the country reject the sect's hardline ideology, and many observers say the group grew out of frustration with Nigeria's widespread corruption, poverty and lack of opportunities for youth.

The crimewave that shames the world
While the author of this article does mention, in the name of Political Correctness, that not all honor killings are by Muslims, fully 98% or more are committed by Muslims. Shooting, stoning, stabbing, strangling, hanging, burning, burying alive and coercing suicide are among the means of killing women and girls for "dishonoring" the family. Not only killings are chronicled here, but acid attacks, cutting off noses, lips and ears, beatings and lashing are commonplace.
The Western view is that these "honor" killings are not linked to Islam, but merely "traditional" or "tribal" In fact, many of these killings are sanctioned or ordered by local Imams and Muslim leaders. Throughout the Islamic world, governments and police forces are often complicit or refuse to bring charges against these woman killers. Even the most "progressive" Islamic countries impose only token sentences on these men.
So if Islam is not the underlying cause of thousands of honor killings around the world, why have the Muslim world not risen up to stop these barbarisms? Where is the public outrage by the Imams and Mullahs? In 1400 years why has Islam not stopped these killings and punished the perpetrators?
Why? because honor killings have been part and parcel of Islam from the earliest days.
In the fianl analysis, Islam is the connecting factor in the vast majority of honor killings throughout the world. Even as Islam spreads into Western society, they bring honor killings with them.

It is a tragedy, a horror, a crime against humanity. The details of the murders – of the women beheaded, burned to death, stoned to death, stabbed, electrocuted, strangled and buried alive for the "honour" of their families – are as barbaric as they are shameful. Many women's groups in the Middle East and South-west Asia suspect the victims are at least four times the United Nations' latest world figure of around 5,000 deaths a year. Most of the victims are young, many are teenagers, slaughtered under a vile tradition that goes back hundreds of years but which now spans half the globe.
A 10-month investigation by The Independent in Jordan, Pakistan, Egypt, Gaza and the West Bank has unearthed terrifying details of murder most foul. Men are also killed for "honour" and, despite its identification by journalists as a largely Muslim practice, Christian and Hindu communities have stooped to the same crimes. Indeed, the "honour" (or ird) of families, communities and tribes transcends religion and human mercy. But voluntary women's groups, human rights organisations, Amnesty International and news archives suggest that the slaughter of the innocent for "dishonouring" their families is increasing by the year.
Iraqi Kurds, Palestinians in Jordan, Pakistan and Turkey appear to be the worst offenders but media freedoms in these countries may over-compensate for the secrecy which surrounds "honour" killings in Egypt – which untruthfully claims there are none – and other Middle East nations in the Gulf and the Levant. But honour crimes long ago spread to Britain, Belgium, Russia and Canada and many other nations. Security authorities and courts across much of the Middle East have connived in reducing or abrogating prison sentences for the family murder of women, often classifying them as suicides to prevent prosecutions.
It is difficult to remain unemotional at the vast and detailed catalogue of these crimes. How should one react to a man – this has happened in both Jordan and Egypt – who rapes his own daughter and then, when she becomes pregnant, kills her to save the "honour" of his family? Or the Turkish father and grandfather of a 16-year-old girl, Medine Mehmi, in the province of Adiyaman, who was buried alive beneath a chicken coop in February for "befriending boys"? Her body was found 40 days later, in a sitting position and with her hands tied.
Or Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow, 13, who in Somalia in 2008, in front of a thousand people, was dragged to a hole in the ground – all the while screaming, "I'm not going – don't kill me" – then buried up to her neck and stoned by 50 men for adultery? After 10 minutes, she was dug up, found to be still alive and put back in the hole for further stoning. Her crime? She had been raped by three men and, fatally, her family decided to report the facts to the Al-Shabab militia that runs Kismayo. Or the Al-Shabab Islamic "judge" in the same country who announced the 2009 stoning to death of a woman – the second of its kind the same year – for having an affair? Her boyfriend received a mere 100 lashes.
Or the young woman found in a drainage ditch near Daharki in Pakistan, "honour" killed by her family as she gave birth to her second child, her nose, ears and lips chopped off before being axed to death, her first infant lying dead among her clothes, her newborn's torso still in her womb, its head already emerging from her body? She was badly decomposed; the local police were asked to bury her. Women carried the three to a grave, but a Muslim cleric refused to say prayers for her because it was "irreligious" to participate in the namaz-e-janaza prayers for "a cursed woman and her illegitimate children".
So terrible are the details of these "honour" killings, and so many are the women who have been slaughtered, that the story of each one might turn horror into banality. But lest these acts – and the names of the victims, when we are able to discover them – be forgotten, here are the sufferings of a mere handful of women over the past decade, selected at random, country by country, crime after crime.
