International Women’s Day: Nigerian Women Demand Equal Rights

A look at how Muslim "men" treat their wives.

FROM WORLDNEWSVINE.COM:

International Women’s Day: Nigerian Women Demand Equal Rights

March 8, 2010 by Victor Ulasi

By: Victor Ulasi, Nigeria

Nigerian women have demanded equal rights and equal opportunity from their male counterparts, stating that they can no longer continue with the rate of disrespect and gender inequality being shown to them. They claim that women in Northern Nigeria are seen as second-class human beings.

During the International Women’s day in Kaduna state, Nigeria, groups of women made it known that as far as Nigeria is concerned, gender sensitivity, gender equality and equal right between the males and the females has never existed. The women further said that in Northern Nigeria women are seen as slaves and that they have no right to public affairs.

Mrs. Hamma Saadatiu, the Chairwoman of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA),  said the method and rate of discrimination against women in Nigeria is unacceptable. Women in Northern Nigeria are not given the opportunity to go school, neither are they granted certain kinds of employment in society.

Mrs. Saadatiu goes on to say, “Women are been treated unfairly in Nigeria in their domestic home, as in Northern Nigeria men do not believe that women have the right to an inheritance or to have a say in the family. Eventually if a woman’s husband dies, his family members end up taking away all the proper possessions from the woman and allowing her to go with just a dress or two, just because she is now a widow. It is a very sad development as the men in Northern Nigeria are gross abusers of women.”

While speaking on gender inequality and mortal mortality, Mrs. Saadatiu made it known that today, the husbands in northern Nigeria do not allow their wives to go to hospital to take care of their health. This is because the husbands forbids their wives to go out of the house and when the women speak up their husbands beat them until they become unconscious. These particular issues increase the rate of maternal mortality in Nigeria.

My research shows that married men in Northern Nigeria divorces their wives at will when they visits the hospital and are checked by male doctors. In Northern Nigeria, men considers it anti-Islam or a taboo for their wives to be checked by a male doctors, even at the risk of death.

I have also learned that in Northern Nigeria, women are not given the opportunity to go to school, since society considers it a waste of time and investment in sending a woman to school. They feel that women are meant to get married and leave the home.

Mr. Danladi Umar, a father who made it known that women’s affairs are secondary issues in his house, said “women’s education is good but it is not a primary issue in any home. Women are products for sale and sooner or later they will be sold off to an unknown destination and only a fool will waste his time decorating a product that is made to be sold. So, there is no point in wasting so much time and resources investing in someone that will end up bearing another man’s name and will not keep the legacy of the family. Women’s education is a secondary issue as long as I am concerned.”

Hafsat Muhammad Baba, a Nigerian woman, said that she thinks it will take up to 10 to 20 years before the gender discrimination in Nigeria would become history. She believes that the men in Nigeria are not yet ready to accord the women with the proper right and respect they deserve, since they see women in Nigeria as second class beings.

Ottawa cabbie ‘pleases’ passenger with a ‘friendly’ kiss

This is another example of a Muslim blaming his victim for his despicable actions against a woman. This all flows from the Islamic disdain and contempt for women. From an Islamic perspective, all women are fair game for Muslim men's "uncontrollable urges" because they are only following the example of the arch rapist Mohammed.

From the Ottawa Citizen

An Ottawa taxi driver who was found guilty of sexual assault in May is to appear in court this month for sentencing. Assistant Crown attorney John Ramsay argues that Hassan Jabar Majli ‘ abused a position of trust when he took advantage of a female passenger in June, 2007. The unidentified victim has testified that the driver, upon dropping her at her destination, followed her into the apartment block, grabbed and kissed her as she tried to get into the elevator. She also testified that Majli put his hands up her skirt and digitally penetrated her as she tried to flee through a stairway.

Majli testified that he believed the woman had asked for a kiss and said he ‘offered’ her a ‘friendly’ kiss when he became worried she would complain to her boss that he didn’t ” please her”. Alan Brass, Majli’s lawyer argued that the cabbie, a married man with a young son, has led a respectable life since arriving in Canada from Kuwait. Majli maintains his innocence. He is to be sentenced August 18.

Girl, 15, "forced to marry illegal immigrant who then raped her and assaulted her little sister"

Another case where importing Islam means importing all the barbaric practices that are integral with Islam. The rape and abuse of women and young girls in Islam is rampant and a fundamental aspect of the "religion".

Girl, 15, "forced to marry illegal immigrant who then raped her and assaulted her little sister"

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 2:46 PM on 31st July 2009

Police are hunting a suspected illegal immigrant accused of raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl who had been forced to marry him.
The Bangladeshi, in his 40s, is also wanted over claims that he sexually assaulted the girl's 12-year-old sister.

He disappeared after the elder girl, now aged 17, contacted the Metropolitan Police on June 26 because she feared she was now being forced into a second marriage.

Specialist child abuse detectives based at Stratford were told that the girl, from an Asian family living in Bethnal Green in London's East End, had been the subject of a forced marriage in April 2007 when she was 15.

Officers have arrested a 53-year-old woman, believed to be another family member, on suspicion of aiding and abetting rape and actual bodily harm. The arrest for assault is linked to an attack on a six-year-old boy.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: 'The sham marriage took place at an address in the E2 area. She alleged she was subsequently raped by the man.
'Further inquiries revealed a second girl, then aged 12, had also been sexually assaulted by the man.

'A 53-year-old woman was arrested on July 7 on suspicion of aiding and abetting rape and actual bodily harm.

'She has subsequently been bailed to return on September 1 to an East London police station pending further enquiries.
'The male suspect remains outstanding and extensive police inquiries continue to trace him.'

Sisters Murdered For “Honor”

Meet the Shafis - father, son and mother. Only two years after arriving in Canada, this conservative Muslim family murdered their three daughters and a superfluous second wife over “disgraceful” Western behavior.

When you import Islam, you import honor killing, wife beating, Sharia law and all the violent traditions that go with it. Honor killings are finally being acknowledged in the MSM as primarily a Muslim phenomenon. It's true that other radical religious sects also commit honor killings, the vast majority come from Muslim populations around the world.

Muslim immigration into Western society must be stopped and the existing immigrants urged to leave. Islam and Western democratic systems are not compatible.

Sisters Murdered For “Honor”
By: Stephen Brown
Friday, July 24, 2009

All of Canada was in shock last Thursday when police in Kingston, Ontario, announced they were charging the mother, father and 18-year-old son of an Afghan family with killing four people. While horrifying enough, the news that stunned Canadians the most was the identity of their innocent victims: their own three daughters and the Muslim husband’s first wife.

“The victims’ lives were cut short by their own family,” said Kingston police chief, Stephen Tanner, who described his police force as “greatly saddened” at the “needless and senseless loss of human life.” Charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder are father Mohammad Shafi, mother Tooba Mohammad Shafi and a son, Hamed Mohammed Shafi. The three accused were arrested last Wednesday morning when on their way to the airport in Montreal where they lived.

Zainab Shafi, 19, Sahar Shafi, 17, Geeti Shafi, 13, all sisters, and Rona Amir Mohammed, 50, were found dead three weeks ago in a black Nissan Sentra at the bottom of Canada’s famous Rideau Canal in three meters of water. Initially, the police were suspicious of their deaths but found no evidence of foul play.

“All shared the rights within our great country to live without fear, to enjoy great safety and security and to exercise freedom of choice and expression and yet had their lives cut short…,” said Tanner.
Rona Amir Mohammed was Mohammad Shafi’s first wife. Finding Rona Mohammed unable to have children, Shafi married Tooba Shafi Yahya, who bore him seven. Like other Muslims with more than one wife immigrating to a Western country where polygamy is illegal, Shafi probably had told Canadian immigration officials his first wife was a relative in order to gain entrance.

The family, which had arrived in Canada two years ago from Dubai, had stopped off at a motel near Kingston on the evening of the murders when returning to Montreal from a trip to Niagara Falls in the family’s two vehicles. The bodies were discovered the following morning.

Saudi Arabia – The World's Largest Women's Prison

The title of this article, "Saudi Arabia – The World's Largest Women's Prison" is correct as far as it goes but misses the fact that one half of the 1.5 billion Muslims are women and therefore subject to variations of Sharia law some of which are even more draconian than in Saudi Arabia. It also misses the fact that ALL Muslims are slaves to Islam with death as the penality for leaving.

FROM MEMRI.ORG:

Saudi Arabia – The World's Largest Women's Prison

In an article on the liberal website Minbar Al-Hiwar Wal-'Ibra (http://www.menber-alhewar1.info ), reformist Saudi journalist and human rights activist Wajeha Al-Huweidar described Saudi Arabia as "the world's largest women's prison." She added that unlike real prisoners, Saudi women have no prospect of ever being released, since throughout their life, they are under the control of a male guardian - their husband, father, grandfather, brother or son.
Huweidar and other women activists recently launched a campaign against the Saudi Mahram [1] Law, which forbids women to leave their home without a male guardian. She told the Kuwaiti daily Awan that the campaign, whose slogan is "treat us like adult citizens or we leave the country," was officially launched at the King Fahd Bridge, connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, where the women demanded to cross the border without a guardian. [2]

The following are excerpts from Al-Huweidar's article: [3]
Prisoners Can Be Released From Prison - But Saudi Women Can't
"The laws of imprisonment are known all over the world. People who commit a crime or an offense are placed in a prison cell... where they serve their sentence. [When they complete it], or get time off for good behavior, they are released... except in cases [where a person is sentenced] to life imprisonment or death. In Saudi Arabia, there are two additional ways to get out of prison early: by learning the Koran or parts of it by heart... or by getting a pardon from the king on the occasion of a holiday or a coronation - after which the prisoner finds himself free and can enjoy life among his family and loved ones.

"However, none of these options exist for Saudi women - neither for those who live behind bars [i.e. who are actually in prison] nor for those who live outside the prison walls. None are ever released, except with the permission of their male guardian. A Saudi woman who committed a crime may not leave her cell when she has finished serving her sentence unless her guardian arrives to collect her. As a consequence, many Saudi women remain in prison just because their guardians refuse to come and get them. The state pardons them, but their guardians insist on prolonging their punishment.
"At the same time, even 'free' women need the permission of their guardian to leave their home, their city or their country. So in either case, the woman's freedom is [in the hands of] her guardian."

Domestic violence

Another glimpse into the wonderful world of Islam.
FROM DAWN.COM:

Domestic violence

A monitoring exercise conducted by the law firm AGHS shows that from April to June this year, 122 cases of women being burnt were reported in Lahore. Of them, 21 women had acid burns while the rest were injured by direct exposure to flames. Forty victims died. Disturbingly, the figures have doubled as compared to the first quarter of the year. These cases constitute merely the tip of the frightening iceberg of violence against Pakistan’s women. The figures reported above apply to Lahore but are unlikely to be lower in other parts of the country. Indeed, one wonders how many cases go unreported. The forms of coercion range from emotional and economic abuse to gross violations of constitutional and human rights, including rape, burning and being handed over as settlement in disputes. Last year, at least two women were believed to have been buried alive in Balochistan. That a sitting parliamentarian defended the act as a ‘tribal custom’ reflects just how endemic violence against women has become in the country.

It is important to note that much of the violence against women, particularly in the domestic sphere, goes unreported. Legislation in this regard, meanwhile, has been indefensibly slow. Work on formulating a bill at the federal level against domestic violence was first initiated in December 2006. Two private members’ bills were combined and approved by the National Assembly’s standing committee on women’s development in April 2007. The assembly’s term lapsed before the bill could be passed, however. In March this year, the National Assembly’s standing committee on women’s development unanimously approved the Prevention of Domestic Violence Bill 2008. But little further progress has been reported so far.

That violence against women continues to rise is perhaps symptomatic of the steady brutalisation that Pakistani society has suffered over the past many decades. It is imperative that effective legislation be devised to not only protect women against abuse, both domestic and otherwise, but also bring the persecutors to book. Treating violence against women, including domestic abuse, as a crime will give protection to victims in meaningful terms.

Woman flees shelter as court sends her to jail

Saudi equality for women: none. This is just one more example of what Islam wants to impose on us all.

FROM ARABNEWS.COM:

Woman flees shelter as court sends her to jail
Arab News

JEDDAH: Police are searching for a 28-year-old woman who ran away from a Social Affairs-run women’s shelter in Jeddah on Friday.

Col. Misfar Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police, said the woman ran away while the police were preparing to take her to jail in line with a court order. He further urged the young woman to surrender and warned the public against giving her shelter.
The court had ordered the police to take the woman to jail while it examined a case filed against her by her father. The woman fled her parents’ home after accusing them of abusing her and sought refuge at the shelter.

The woman had earlier complained against her father at a summary court. The father had then filed a counter-case against her, accusing her of disobeying her parents, a culpable offense under Saudi law. The court refused to entertain the woman’s petition and instead began examining the father’s complaint.

Before issuing a final verdict, the court ordered police to take the woman to jail. When police arrived to take her, the woman said she needed to use the toilet and on entering the ladies’ toilet she fled.

Urging the young woman to return to her senses and surrender to the authorities, Dr. Ali Al-Hanaki, director of the Ministry of Social Affairs Ministry in Jeddah, said, “The solution now lies in her own hands. Each additional day she refuses to obey the authorities will only worsen her problem.”

He added that the ministry had pledged to resolve her problem without sending her to jail. “We have informed the court of our plans, which include arranging for her to marry and reconciling her with her family,” said Al-Hanaki.

He also requested her father to stop sending threatening messages to the authorities.

No sane, free person would choose to wear a burka

Interesting and informative reaction of a western non-Muslim woman upon donning a burka.

FROM CALGARYHERALD.COM:

No sane, free person would choose to wear a burka
By Licia Corbella, Calgary Herald June 27, 2009

A while back I was asked to give a talk at my kids' school about my December 2003 trip to Afghanistan.
As I waited to be introduced, I hid in an auditorium storage room wearing a burka I bought in that war-ravaged country, thinking I'd be out in a minute, maybe two. But the introduction took a lot longer than I had anticipated and by the time I came out to greet all those shining faces, I was very nearly hyperventilating from the oppression of it. I didn't time my self-imposed confinement to the burka, but I probably wore the suffocating tent-like garment with mesh over my eyes for no more than 10 minutes. I told the kids I felt like I was buried alive.

I also told them that while in Afghanistan, I asked all of the many women I met there whether they liked wearing a burka. Not one said yes. In fact, they all said they hated it almost as much as they hated the Taliban.

It's no wonder. The burka's toll on these women was harsh. Many had lost most of their teeth and hair as a result of not having enough vitamin D, which comes from the sun. During the time of Taliban rule--from September 1996 to November 2001 --no portion of their skin, save their hands, was ever allowed to be exposed to sunlight. Think about the horror of that. The Taliban insisted that homes with women in them had to blacken their windows, lest a man pollute his delicate sensibilities by gazing upon the uncovered face of a woman behind the glass.

Temporary marriages with Indonesian women on rise

Just another look at how Islam denigrates women. No matter what it's called (temporary marriage), or how it's sanctioned by the Qur'an (dowry), buying and selling women is not acceptable under any circumstances. That Islam continues these vile practices only illustrates the barbaric 7th century mentality that is cast in stone in the Qur'an and Muslim society.

In Islam, all Muslims are slaves, women doubly so.

FROM ARABNEWS.COM:

Temporary marriages with Indonesian women on rise
P.K. Abdul Ghafour | Arab News
JEDDAH: A large number of Saudis are engaging in temporary marriages with Indonesian women with the intention of divorcing them.
“Such marriages are likely to increase if Islamic scholars fail to give a clear ruling prohibiting them,” said Khaled Al-Arrak, director of Saudi affairs at the Saudi Embassy in Jakarta.

He said most Saudis were engaged in such marriages without realizing their consequences. “Some poor Indonesians marry off their girls to Saudis hoping it would put an end to their poverty and miseries. If the Council of Senior Islamic Scholars does not ban this type of marriages, things will go out of control,” Al-Arrak warned.
There are so many offices in Indonesia that facilitate such marriages, Al-Watan Arabic daily said. The marriage takes place in the presence of witnesses and a man posing as the father of the bride.

These women do not know that their marriages would end within a few days and that they would have to bear children of people who would abandon them.
Last year, the Saudi Embassy in Jakarta received 82 calls regarding children of Saudis who had married Indonesian women and then abandoned them. “We have received 18 such calls from abandoned Indonesian wives of Saudis and their children this year so far,” Al-Arrak said.

Afghan men hurl stones at 300 women

Afghan women clad in burqas listen to a speech in Kabul last week. Today some 300 women were pelted with stones by men after they protested a new law that legalises marital rape

What is it about Muslim men stoning women? And if not stoning, then beating or imprisoning, or disfiguring with acid. Every Islamic culture has it's own brand of institutionalized suppression of women.

In this case, it's a hysterical mob of Afghani Muslim so called "men", throwing rocks at women demonstrating against the recent "rape law" imposed by the Taliban and the government.

All Muslims are slaves. Female Muslims doubly so.

Afghan men hurl stones at 300 women protesting law that allows husbands to rape their wives

By Mail Foreign Service

Last updated at 11:03 AM on 15th April 2009

Some 300 Afghan women have been pelted by stones as they gathered to protest a new law that critics say legalises marital rape. Police struggled to keep counter-protesters away.
The law says a husband can demand sex with his wife every four days unless she is ill or would be harmed by intercourse. It passed last month.
Women's rights activists scheduled a protest today attended by about 300 mostly young women.

But the group was swamped by counter-protesters who shouted down the women's chants.

Some of the protesting men picked up gravel and stones and threw them at the women.

The men shouted 'Death to the slaves of the Christians!'

Female police held hands around the group to create a protective barrier.

A Universal Doctrine of Women’s Rights.

A must read from Phyllis Chessler and Marcia Pappas.

FROM PAJAMASMEDIA.COM:

A Universal Doctrine of Women’s Rights.

By Phyllis Chesler and Marcia Pappas

It is time for feminists, both women and men, of all faiths, and of no faith, to stand together for a woman’s right not to be murdered in the name of family honor. Indeed, we welcome men and women of all faiths, including Islam, to stand with us against female genital mutilation/castration, forced veiling, child marriage, arranged marriage, polygamy, and “honorcide,” and in favor of a woman’s right to live as a westerner in the West without being threatened and beaten for refusing to wear hijab, wanting to have non-Muslim friends, wear makeup, attend college, drive her own car, or end an abusive marriage. Muslim and Sikh women have been honor murdered in North America for all these alleged crimes against their religion and their culture.

Here are some specific examples of how American feminist leaders have addressed the problems of Third World women, including Muslim women, both here and abroad. While there are exceptions, most feminists seem to feel more comfortable criticizing their own government. They hesitate to criticize foreign, Third World governments, lest they be demonized as “crusaders” or “politically incorrect racists.”

In the 1980s, feminists respected Alice Walker’s brave stand against female genital cutting/mutilation. Walker, a feminist-”womanist,” focused on perpetrators who were usually women of color, in the Middle East and Africa, who were savagely mutilating their own daughters and granddaughters to render them “marriageable” for men. As an African-American legend, perhaps Walker was viewed as morally “entitled” to criticize foreign, including African, sexism. (Walker finally published her book about this, Warrior Marks, in 1993). In the 1990s, NOW national and state Presidents also spoke out against female genital cutting/mutilation.

Today, sadly something has changed. The unspoken politics of racism among the feminist intelligentsia, and among feminist philanthropists is as follows: If the victims are women of color, especially if they are Arabs, definitely if they are Palestinians, or Muslims, their suffering and their deaths matter—but only if their abusers and murderers are white, European, American, or Israeli. If dark-skinned Africans or Muslims of color gang-rape, kidnap, sexually enslave, bury alive, immolate or stone women of color, including Arabs, Palestinians, and Muslims, (in the West Bank and Gaza, in Afghanistan, Iran, Algeria, Sudan, Somalia), or if one Muslim denomination (Sunni) blows up the other, (Shiaa) in Pakistan and Iraq, it is simply not politically correct to say so. Muslim-on-Muslim crimes do not count in the same way that white European or American-on-Muslim crimes seem to matter.

This is the party line in our universities, in our mainstream media, at the United Nations and in international human rights organizations.

Why are Second and Third Wave feminists buying into this? Why are feminists sacrificing so many women to the dangerous ideology of “cultural relativism,” a belief system in which concerns about sexism are always trumped by concerns about racism? The authors are not saying that racism does not exist, that it does not matter, that it must not be addressed. We are saying that women are affected by both. And when a man or a woman seeks to objectify, abuse or murder women, they should be called out on it, no matter what their skin-color or gender may be.

Ban women from TV, urge clerics

Bit by bit, our good friends the Saudis continue on their time travel back to the days of Mohammed. Bit by bit, the Imams impose more and more control (as if they had much freedom in the first place) over every aspect of the lives of Saudi women. Bit by bit women are forced further into a kind of living oblivion while being in plain sight.

FROM NEWS.AOL.CO.UK:

Ban women from TV, urge clerics
Last Updated: Monday, 23 March 2009, 05:51 GMT

A group of hard-line Saudi clerics urged the kingdom's new information minister to ban women from appearing on TV or in newspapers and magazines.
In a statement, the 35 clergymen also called on Abdel Aziz Khoja, who was appointed by King Abdullah February 14 as part of a wide reform drive, to prohibit the playing of music and music shows on television.

"We have great hope that this media reform will be accomplished by you," said the statement. "We have noticed how well-rooted perversity is in the Ministry of Information and Culture, in television, radio, press, culture clubs and the book fair."

The clerics' recommendation will probably have little effect because the king's reshuffle removed a number of hard-line figures and is believed to be part of an effort to weaken the influence of conservatives in this devout desert kingdom.

The Value of Human Life in Islam

A look into how Islam sees the rest of humanity.

Basically, if you ain't a Muslim, you ain't sh*t.

Even if you are a Muslim but you are a woman, you ain't sh*t.

FROM ISLAM-WATCH.ORG:

The Value of Human Life in Islam
by Abu Taleb
22 Apr, 2008
Here, I just want to repeat what Ali Sina wrote several years ago in the article "Is Political Islam?" where he showed, among other things, the value of human life based on Islamic law. Here is the quotation:
In the April 9, 2002 issue, The Wall Street Journal published the concept of blood money in Saudi Arabia . If a person has been killed or caused to die by another, the latter has to pay blood money or compensation, as follow.
100,000 riyals if the victim is a Muslim man
50,000 riyals if a Muslim woman
50,000 riyals if a Christian man
25,000 riyals if a Christian woman
6,666 riyals if a Hindu man
3,333 riyals if a Hindu woman
According to this hierarchy, a Muslim man's life is worth 33 times that of a Hindu woman. This hierarchy is based on the Islamic definition of human rights and is rooted in the Quran and Sharia (Islamic law). How can we talk of democracy when the concept of equality in Islam is inexistent?
The proportion on the list above is exactly the same as what is said in the Sharia law found in "The Risala of 'Abdullah ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani (310/922 - 386/996), A Treatise on Maliki Fiqh". The relevant quotation can be found below. To make easier, I make the list of the blood money as follows:
12,000 dirham for a muslim man
6,000 dirhams for a muslim woman
6,000 dirhams for a Christian/Jews man
3,000 dirham for a Christian/Jews woman
800 dirham for a Magian man
400 dirham for a Magian woman
Obviously, the Hindu people and other non Christian/Jews people are worth the same as the Magian people. And a muslim man's life is worth 30 times that of a non Christian/Jews infidel woman. Imagine people like Indira Ghandi or Sirimavo Bandaranaike etc is worth only 1/30 of, for example, a stupid bearded child abuser muslim guy who drinks camel urine as medicine.
So the current Islamic law in Saudi Arabia is exactly the same as the Islamic law a thousand years ago, because that they come from the true Islam.
37.4. The tariff for other than Muslim men
37.4a. Half the tariff
The blood money of a woman is half that of a man. The same applies to the blood money of Kitabis, and their women is half of that of their men.
[The blood money of a free Muslim woman is half that of a free Muslim man. So her blood money is fifty camels, in fourths or fifths according to whether the killing is accidental or deliberate. The more severe form [if the victim is a daughter" is 2/3rds of 16 and a third of camels from every type. In money, it is 500 gold dinars and 6000 silver dirhams.
The same is true for the Jews and Christians. It is half that of the Muslims based on what an-Nasa'i reports that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The blood wit of the people of the dhimma is half that of the Muslims. There is half of that blood money for Kitabi women.]
37.4b. Magians
A Magian's blood money is 800 dirhams and that of their women half of that. The same principle applies to penalties for wounds.
[A Magian, who is not a Kitabi, has this amount in silver and in gold it is 66 dinars and in camels, 6 and two-thirds in camels. Their women have half of that. The same portion applies to wounds.]
(The Risala of 'Abdullah ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani (310/922 - 386/996), A Treatise on Maliki Fiqh (Including commentary from ath-Thamr ad-Dani by al-Azhari)

Escaping Sharia

FROM FRONTPAGEMAG.COM:

Escaping Sharia

By Jamie Glazov
FrontPageMagazine.com | 3/31/2008
Frontpage Interview's guest today is Rabab Khaja, a visitor from Kuwait who came to the U.S. with her two sons over a year ago. She escaped persecution by Sharia Law.

FP: Rabab Khaja, welcome to Frontpage Interview.

Khaja: Thank you Frontpage for having me.

FP: Let's begin with discussing your status here.

Khaja: I'm here on a Tourist Visa. Which means I keep moving between the United States and my country every few months. My two sons go to college here and I am visiting them. I am seeking a lawyer now to solve my situation.

FP: Tell us the trouble you face in your country.

Khaja: The last time I came to the United States, I had a fight with my husband two nights before leaving. He threatened to place my name on all the borders so I could never leave Kuwait. And until the last minute before taking off I wasn't sure if he had done that or not. And I don't want to face the same circumstances again where I would be a prisoner in my own country.

I have been separated from my husband for almost eight years now. Two of which I did not leave the marital house, and four in a rented apartment in Kuwait, and the last two years between here and Kuwait.
On the advice of friends and relatives, including my lawyer (they said that so long as my husband does not want to divorce, I do not have a case with Shari'a courts), I did not file a case against him until recently, and resorted to solve the problem peacefully. But he refused and insisted that he'd never divorce me. He mocked me when I told him that I was going to sue him for divorce, saying that Shari'a is a "man". And he was right.

Allowing Saudi Women to Drive

This is amazing. On the one hand, the stipulations proposed for women drivers are absurd and bordering on insanity. On the other hand, the Saudi Shura Council is stone serious about the restrictions.

You just can't make this stuff up.

Allowing Saudi Women to Drive
By MEMRI
Memri.org | 3/20/2008

On March 17, 2008, Alarabiya.net reported that the Saudi Shura Council has recommended allowing women to drive. The recommendation follows recent efforts by Saudi women rights activists headed by Wajeha Al-Huwaidar and Fawziya Al-Uyuni. Ten days ago Al-Huwaidar marked the International Women’s Day, March 8, 2008 by driving her car in Saudi Arabia appealing to the minister of interior, Prince Nayef to allow women to drive. Her driving was posted on Youtube and received international attention. [To view the clip translated into English see MEMRI TV clip No. 1712, visit http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1712.htm ]
The following is a summary of the Saudi Shura Council recommendation.

The Recommendations
A source in Saudi Arabia's Shura Council reports that the council has submitted a recommendation to senior elements in the country to permit women to drive vehicles, with the following stipulations:

* The woman driver must be under 30.
* The woman's driving is conditional upon the permission of a relative [father, husband, brother, or son].
* The woman driver must obtain a driver's license from the center for teaching women to drive.
* The woman driver must be modestly dressed.
* The woman driver will be permitted to drive alone in the cities, but outside the cities she must be accompanied by a relative.
* The woman driver will be permitted to drive Saturday through Wednesday between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
* The woman driver must have a cell phone with her, so she can call for help in an emergency.
* The woman driver must pay a certain sum when her license is issued; this sum will be set aside for car repairs.
* The Shura Council also ordered the following:
* The establishment of a special women's transportation department; this department will collect the fees.
* The establishment of a telephone emergency center.
* The establishment of transportation centers for women in the cities, which will be under religious supervision.
* The council stipulated that a woman driver who violates these rules will have her license revoked.

In the framework of this recommendation, the Shura Council is required to impose a one-month prison sentence and a fine on anyone talking with a woman driver from another car, and an eight-month prison sentence and a fine on anyone who sexually harasses a woman driver.
A transportation administration source reports that the Shura Council has as yet issued no guidelines for establishing a women's transportation department.

There must be violence against women

Here it is folks, from "YEMEN'S MOST WIDELY READ AND TRUSTED ENGLISH NEWSPAPER". "There must be violence against women". The "moderate" Yemenis are so proud of the Islamic edict to beat women, they defend it in print for all the world to see. Their main concern is that outside influences will subvert their barbaric religion and way of life: "I hope my message is clear, since it’s really quite relevant to the future of our societies, which must be protected from any kind of cultural invasion." And these are the "moderate" Muslims.
FROM YEMENTIMES.COM:

There must be violence against women

This title may sound strange, but it’s actually not just a way to attract readers to the topic because I really do mean what it indicates. Violence is a broad term, especially when used regarding women. In this piece, I want to shed light on those instances where violence against women is a must.

First, we should know the meaning of the word violence. Longman’s Dictionary of Contemporary English defines violence as “behavior that is intended to hurt other people physically.” However, the term violence mustn’t be confused with other concepts and terms such as gender inequality or absence of women rights.

Occasionally – if not daily – we hear about events occurring in Islamic and Arab societies. Some human rights organizations recently have attacked violent acts against women, standing against any type of violence – even that between a father and daughter – and citing the cases of some women as examples.

Consequently, they offer solutions such as complaining to the police, taking revenge or leaving them men, who are either their husbands, fathers or brothers – with no exceptions.

One such case involved a woman whose husband allegedly had beaten her. Without revealing the husband’s reasons for doing so, such human rights organizations immediately urged the wife to complain to the police and the courts, while at the same time generalizing the instance and other similar solutions to any type of violence.

“A good wife must live in fear”

A good rundown of the unbelievable repression and oppression of women in Saudi Arabia, the home of Islam.
FROM ASIANEWS.IT:
“A good wife must live in fear”
Women are forbidden to drive, to show their head and to speak in public, and to shake a man’s hand. On television, preachers incite husbands to beat their wives “for their own good”. Saudi journalists describe the countless prohibitions facing Muslim women in their country and appeal for a distinction between religious truths and social customs.

Riyadh (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Without permission, women cannot even drive a car or change the colour of their clothes, and television preachers warn that women who shake a man’s hand are committing “adultery of the hand”. Citing such examples, Saudi journalists have criticized the social mentality that rules the relationship between wife and husband.
In the Saudi daily Al-Watan, Fatima Al-Faqih described the many bans imposed on Saudi women: “[They] are forbidden to drive, forbidden to travel without permission [of their husband or father or whoever has authority over them] , forbidden to stay alone at a hotel without permission, forbidden to name their own children without [a man's] consent... forbidden to leave their homes or to take a job without permission... forbidden to change the color of their abayas [traditional, long tunic], forbidden to go to school or to the university without permission.”
